The Orchard: Extended Day Program | Almaden Country Day School The Orchard: Extended Day Program At Almaden Country Day School, we believe children benefit from having comfortable places to gear up and wind down at school that is safe, enriching and also extends learning. We offer supervised programs for all ACDS students before and after school. In the mornings, ACDS students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade can attend our complimentary before-school program The Orchard: Extended Day program is available to Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade students for a fee based upon the number of days your child attends. any text here ACDS also offers a fee-based after-school program for all ACDS Pre-Kindergarten to 8th Grade students: Pre-Kindergarten Kindergarten-Grade 2 Grades 3-5 Grades 6-8 Pre-Kindergarten ACDS’s youngest learners are encouraged to freely explore their interests through supervised indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, storytelling, and quiet time. Each Orchard session will begin with a community gathering lead by the program director that includes K-8th participants of the program. Students will be led through a mindfulness, team bonding, or social skill-building activity before breaking into grade-specific groupings. Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Children engage in activities that foster curiosity, empathy, and essential life skills like organization and mindfulness. The Orchard’s faculty’s goal is to establish a strong foundation for future academic and personal growth, all while providing ample time for relaxation and play. Each Orchard session will begin with a community gathering lead by the program director that includes K-8th participants of the program. Students will be led through a mindfulness, team bonding, or social skill-building activity before breaking into grade-specific groupings. 3rd - 5th Grade This stage offers a balanced blend of homework support, social interaction, and structured activities to enhance academic achievement and emotional well-being. Students enjoy a well-rounded experience that promotes their overall development. Students will be led through a mindfulness, team bonding, or social skill-building activity before breaking into grade-specific groupings. 6th - 8th Grade ACDS’s middle school program focuses on refining critical life skills such as goal-setting, problem-solving, and time management. Through service-learning projects and community-building activities, students develop the confidence and competence necessary to succeed in academics and beyond. Daily Schedule Day 1: Study Skills We will focus on learning and practicing age-appropriate organizational skills, effective study habits, time management, and personal development. It is structured to be interactive, engaging, and practical, ensuring that students can apply these skills in their daily academic and personal lives. Day 2: Brain Teasers This time will center on fun and challenging strategy and brain teaser games and activities. By fostering critical thinking, strategic planning, and teamwork, students will develop essential cognitive skills that will benefit them academically and personally. Through interactive lessons, practical activities, and continuous support, students will enjoy learning while enhancing their mental capabilities. Day 3: Pep it Up! We will learn and practice the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and community involvement while encouraging students to participate in and support school athletic events. The curriculum includes activities, events, and projects that promote a sense of pride and unity within the school. Upper elementary and middle school students will have the opportunity to support their peers by attending on-site athletic events and helping create original school spirit posters, cheers, and activities. Day 4: Service Learning During this time we aim to connect students to on-campus, service learning opportunities to cultivate a sense of responsibility, empathy, and active citizenship among the students. Students, guided by their instructors, will help create service plans based on the needs of the community. This will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while making a positive impact in our school and local community. Day 5: Study Skills As a bookend for the week, students will review their academic and activity progress by revisiting personal goals, task lists and student planners while simultaneously noting successes and challenges. Through interactive lessons, practical activities, and continuous support, students will learn to manage their time effectively, stay organized, and remain motivated to reach their full potential. How to Enroll Enrollment takes place during the re-enrollment period during the start of each year. A link will be sent to parents to register. Drop-in is offered on a space available basis. Please note: Students requiring The Orchard five days a week are given priority for enrollment.
