First Class - Dual Credit
The First Class at CMU dual credit program allows qualified high school students to enroll in approved classes and receive both high school and college credit. This provides students with an early start in fulfilling college requirements. Credit earned can be applied at many colleges and universities, including CMU. First Class offers dual credit classes in three formats: online, Zoom, and in-house.
Dual Credit Application
Dual Credit Class Formats
In-house dual credit classes
can be provided by high school teachers at their high school once CMU has approved them to teach for First Class. Teachers who want to seek approval should submit to the First Class Office an
Adjunct Approval Form
, unofficial transcript, resume, and a list of which classes they wish to teach.
Online dual credit classes
are offered in the fall and spring semesters. Classes are 16 weeks, 14 weeks, or 8 weeks in length and are taught through the learning management system, Canvas. Students in online classes should be given a dedicated hour during the school day to work on their course(s). These classes require a lot of initiative and self-motivation. They also create an environment in which everyone participates. Students who are interested in online classes should take the
online readiness quiz
and discuss the subject with their parents and teachers before enrolling in an online class.
Zoom
classes allow students to “join” a class from their high school and connect in real-time with students in other schools and an instructor provided by CMU. Appropriate technology equipment is required to offer classes via Zoom. Canvas is utilized as the learning management system.
CMU's dual credit program is accredited by the
The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships
.
Tuition and Fees
Dual credit class tuition is $80 per credit hour for In-Seat and Zoom. Online tuition is $100 per credit hour. Once a student is enrolled, they will receive a statement monthly until their balance is at $0. Payment can be sent in before the tuition amount appears on the student’s account. It will show up as a credit and will be processed once the tuition charges are added.
If you are unsure what your balance is, please log in to myCMU. Click the Student tab at the top, and then click the Billing and Payments tab on the left.
