RAMANANDA COLLEGE
Ramananda College is a pioneering higher-educational institution located at Bishnupur, within the district of Bankura. It is the sole co-educational Degree College with PG courses recognized by the UGC within Bishnupur town. Since its inception in 1945, this institution has been serving the cause of higher education in the local community and also of students from far-away, remote villages. Even today students from other districts are studying here.
Sri Ramnalini Chakraborty, freedom-fighter and social worker of Bishnupur, Sri Radhagobinda Roy, founder-principal of this college and ex-minister, Govt. of West Bengal and other eminent community members of Bishnupur decided to establish this college here. Sri Ramnalini Chakraborty, the Koley family, Sri Anil Kumar Bhattacharya, members of the Friends’ Union Club and the community maximally funded the costs for building this college. The college is named after the son of the soil, Sri Ramananda Chattopadhyay (1865-1943), journalist, editor and scholar who was active during the Bengal Renaissance.
Initially the college was affiliated to the University of Calcutta, and later to the University of Burdwan and now under the affiliation of the Bankura University since 1
st
January, 2017. The college is recognized by the UGC under Sections 2F and 12B. As the college was established before Independence, it predates both the creations of the UGC and the University of Burdwan. In 2015, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) re-accredited (2
nd
cycle) the College with 2.75 score. Further, with the introduction of different Post Graduate Courses in Science and Humanities, the college has become a constituent college of the Bankura University. Now the college is complaint with the visions of RUSA.

The vision of Ramananda College is to provide innovative academic ambience, best standards, healthy practices, opportunities and experiences that enable individuals, communities, and the society as a whole to thrive, develop and prosper. This institution of higher education is open to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion or gender. Since its inception in 1945 the institution has been marching forward to become a centre of excellence for higher education, heralding the motto

Principal's Desk
It is my proud privilege to have served this premier higher education institution as Principal for the last seven years. My aim is to make this college a centre of higher education that is dedicated to nation-building. The need of the hour is holistic education. I have made especial efforts to ensure the welfare of students and other stakeholders from the underprivileged classes and minorities, and that of our female students in particular.
I am delighted to announce that the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded Ramananda College a B++ grade with a CGPAof 2.83 in 2021. This is the result of the third cycle of assessment of the college—a stage to which very few higher education institutions in West Bengal have progressed so quickly. This excellent rating is an af
rmation of our college's excellence, and I hope that it will inspire us to work harder and take the college to greater heights in future. I thank each and every one of the stakeholders of the college for the effort they put in to ensure the success of this assessment.
During this year, we continued to meet the challenges presented to the educational system caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have organized a vaccination programme for students who were unable to obtain it on their own. We have improved our online learning delivery methods and continued to encourage virtual studying. We have tried our best to ensure that students have not suffered in terms of their studies, and also tracked their progress effectively through timely evaluations and assessments. The college has further developed its online platform for teaching and learning activities. Our faculty members are utilising various platforms to communicate satisfactorily with students, and have already completed the syllabi of the even semester on time. The IQAC of this institution has created an easily accessible online library of e-content and model questions for students and faculty members. Many of our departments have organized national and international-level webinars and online lecture series.
We are now looking forward to fully implementing a blended system of education as recommended by the University Grants Commission. With the resumption of in-person classes in November 2021, we have been not only been teaching students in classrooms, but also helping them get re-accustomed to classroom-based learning—especially those who had not entered a school or college classroom in the past two years. At the same time, we are continuing to use electronic and online teaching learning methods more effectively so that students receive the best of both worlds.
The lifting of pandemic-related restrictions enabled to restart our annual cycle of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. We could hold our annual College Sports in 2022, after a gap of nearly two years. We also conducted an intra-college Drama Competition, as well as the Annual Exhibition. Many of our students have performed well in sports and other extra-curricular activities. I am very proud of the fact that our student Panchu Duley was selected for the national U-19 Football Team in 2021.
In the academic year 2021-22, 16 students of our college (a record-breaking number) have qualifed in the NET, SET and GATE examinations. I wish them all the best for their future.
Finally, in June 2022, we could organize the first-ever Legal Aid Camp in association with the college's Alumni Association, which saw the participation of district-level, sub-divisional, and local judges and law enforcement officials.
I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Arup Chakraborty, Member, West Bengal Legislative Assembly, who is the President of the Governing Body of this college, for always encouraging, advising, and helping me to lead the college properly. I also thank other members of the Governing Body for cooperating with me in the administrative work of the college. Finally, I would like to thank the teachers and the non-teaching staff for always helping me whenever their help has been needed.
