DTRA Conducts Program Assessment of NVRI Facilities
The National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) hosted a delegation from the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) for a two-day facility and programme assessment aimed at enhancing biosafety, biosecurity, and diagnostic capacity for high-risk animal and zoonotic diseases.
Receiving the delegation, the Ag. Director/Chief Executive, Dr. Nicholas Nwankpa, expressed appreciation for DTRA’s sustained collaboration, describing the support as transformative in strengthening infrastructure, personnel capacity, and national disease surveillance systems. He noted that the initiative represents a critical investment in protecting animal and public health in Nigeria and the region.
Led by the DTRA Project Manager, Major David Smith, the assessment team reviewed priority laboratories, utility systems, and strategic project sites across the Institute. The visit concluded successfully with full institutional participation and a reaffirmation of continued partnership between NVRI and DTRA.
