A Whole School Approach
Wellbeing at Preshil
Preshil is deeply committed to prioritising wellbeing as an integral part of the school experience. Through our whole school approach to physical and mental health, wellbeing foundations are forged and allowed the space to grow and flourish across the many dimensions of school life. Various whole school initiatives, such as Wellbeing Wednesdays, Youth Mental Health First Aid and SchoolTV aimed at supporting our students, families and staff are a resounding testament to this as wellbeing exists as foundational to the way we deliver education.
At the heart of our community is the value we place on nurturing and valuing relationships where acceptance inspires our young people with the courage to be and become themselves and weather the storms that may come their way.
Our dedicated wellbeing space provides a welcoming and safe environment which allows us to ensure students’ unique needs are met effectively. In circumstances where students may need to briefly re-regulate and self-manage their wellbeing before returning to class, the space provides an accessible yet secure environment to do this in throughout the school day. Additionally, the space facilitates peer interactions and an opportunity to check in with our Student Wellbeing Leader for additional individual support, which encourages a sense of communication and connection, and provides continuous and personalised support as students transition through different phases of their education journey.
Students who would prefer to seek this support in a more confidential way can engage with the Student Wellbeing Leader via eiPulse or email and an appointment can be arranged through an online booking system. Students are invited to arrange more long term supports through self-referral or connection with our School Counsellor.
In most instances, wellbeing services involve consultation with you and your young person, but your child may be offered a confidential service so that they feel able to trust the Wellbeing team. We always prioritise the safety and wellbeing of your young person first when making decisions about confidentiality and information sharing and this will be discussed in each individual circumstance.
Wellbeing Wednesdays
Wellbeing Wednesdays see students participate in eiPulse – a fun and easy
weekly wellbeing check-in during homeroom. It encourages students to reflect
on their mental, social, and physical wellbeing by answering 6 randomised and
evidence-based questions generated by the Australian Research Alliance for
Children and Youth (ARACY), finishing with an opportunity for students to express
gratitude for a peer or staff member.
During each check-in, students will start their Pulse check in with a simple yet
crucial question, “How are you feeling today?”. Students can state that they are
feeling great, through struggling. If they click, I need some help, they will be given
options for who they might like to speak to, allowing us to identify risk early and
respond in a timely way. Pulse also amplifies student voice, allowing us to assess
student wellbeing in each cohort and identify patterns and trends according to
six interconnected wellbeing domains: physical, emotional, and mental health,
material basics, valued and safe, participating, learning and identity and culture.
Examining these trends over time will allow the wellbeing team to implement
proactive interventions across the whole school through an accurate read of the
school climate.

Preshil Wellbeing Committee
Student voice plays a significant role in creating a mentally healthy community at Preshil as we recognise that wellbeing isn’t just about response and recovery but proactive wellness and flourishing too.
The Preshil Wellbeing Committee (PWC) is an initiative which provides students from Year 7 – 12 with the opportunity to develop health promotion activities for the school environment. These are intended to provide positive wellbeing experiences for themselves, their peers, and the school community.
The Committee consists of a group of students who are passionate about, proactive in, and committed to raising awareness of the importance of mental health and help seeking behaviours in their peers. Committee members progress through a recruitment process which aims to be representative of our diverse school community. Successful applicants are chosen to actively celebrate and lead the way in which we address mental health in the school community through representing their year level. This is coordinated via termly meetings, active collection of student voice, student led events, activities, and projects, and celebration of annual awareness days with the support of the wellbeing team where appropriate.
If your young person is interested in this exciting leadership opportunity to join the Preshil Wellbeing Committee, please encourage them to get in touch with the Wellbeing team.
