To this end, we work with each grade level to advance understanding, competence and confidence. Freshman year: MGA guidance counselors hold classroom workshops throughout the school year for incoming students to encourage and ensure a smooth transition to MGA and high school in general. Topics include: How to make the most of high school – find and explore opportunities Ins and outs of academic requirements Understanding your transcript Positive communication with peers and adults Self and career exploration Sophomore year: The sophomore year continues the freshman year of exploration and development with workshops and planned activities throughout the school year. Topics include: Class community team building through service and structured activities Academic requirements – making good decisions PSAT – college preparatory standardized test administered in the fall Career speakers College visit Self and career exploration Junior year: We begin to prepare for life after The Maine Girls’ Academy. Students continue their strong academic pursuits, along with self and career exploration, as they become acquainted to the various aspects of the college process. This includes: Monthly classroom workshops, January - May Evening family workshops One-on-one meetings with a counselor The College Admission Handbook PSAT – college preparatory standardized test administered in the fall Senior year: In the senior year, we work with students to shape their preparation for college and the world of work. Seniors and their families receive information and counseling in all phases of the college admission process and post-secondary transition.
