Welcome to Hampton Roads Academy, the only co-ed, non-denominational Pre-K-12 independent school on the Peninsula! We are excited that you and your child are considering joining our school family.

We understand that families may have many questions about all aspects of the admissions process. Our Office of Admissions is committed to helping simplify that process as much as possible. We will help connect you with information about submitting an application, assist you in choosing which admissions events to attend, provide information about day-to-day life as a Navigator, and more.
How do I apply?
Our application for prospective students is conveniently located online and must be completed by a parent or guardian.

What is the application deadline?
We accept applications on a rolling schedule—you can apply at any time! After we receive your application, we will reach out about scheduling an assessment.
How much does the application cost?
We require an application fee of $75.00 upon submission. Please note that this fee is not refundable.
Is financial aid available?
Need-based financial aid
is available for students in Grades 5 through 12 and determined by each student’s demonstrated need for financial support. Once the enrollment agreement and deposit have been received for your student, you are eligible to begin the
financial aid application
. Assistance is granted on an annual basis, and a new aid application must be submitted each year.
Does HRA have any tuition payment plan options?
HRA offers monthly tuition payments, and tuition can also be pre-paid in full. There is no interest charged for payment plans, though the tuition refund plan is mandatory for all families electing not to pre-pay in full.

To what grades are new students admitted?
Hampton Roads Academy admits students entering any grade, from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 11. While rare, there are exceptional circumstances in which a new student may be admitted into Grade 12. We operate on a rolling admissions process, and new student applications may be submitted at any point throughout the year.
What admissions events are available to future Navigators and their families?
Future students are welcome to

our campus in Newport News to take a tour! Additionally, we offer
admissions events
such as Walk-In Wednesdays, Shadow Days, and more to help future students and their families learn about our school.

We aim to offer an accessible educational experience to every student who wishes to attend our school, starting with their application. We strive for as straightforward an application process as possible, as applying should not be a barrier to attending our school. Before applying, we recommend completing the following steps:

We encourage every interested student and their family to schedule an on-campus tour. Get a feel for our breathtaking campus and state-of-the-art facilities by taking a tour led by a member of our Office of Admissions! Before stepping foot on our campus, you and your future Navigator can also familiarize yourself with our school by taking a

For your convenience, we offer Shadow Days, Walk-in Wednesdays, and more on-campus events for prospective students and families interested in learning more about HRA and our admissions process.
