11 - 13 October 2017
In an age where the production, distribution and sharing of content across multiple platforms is increasingly accessible, transmedia has emerged as a key strategy for engaging audiences across media.
But while understandings of the transmedia phenomenon are often tied to the Hollywood setting and to commercial forms of franchise and branding in Anglo-American contexts, different countries, cultures and peoples around the world are now beginning to define additional uses for transmedia, adapting this phenomenon in unique ways to different cultures, communities, technologies and industries – be it in sectors of film, television, publishing, journalism, leisure, radio, politics and beyond, emerging in arenas as diverse as creative writing, museums, apps, virtual reality, activism and education.
With this in mind, the Transmedia Earth Conference provides a global platform for showcasing and exploring the many manifestations of contemporary and historical transmedia around the world.
“The Transmedia Earth Conference seeks to internationalise both the study and the practice of transmedia.”
The inaugural conference – hosted by EAFIT University in Colombia – seeks to map emerging understandings of transmedia and global convergence cultures.
