Authorization About ACCREDITATION Higher Learning Commission August 2025: The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accrediting agency has invited Southern States University for a Candidacy accreditation review visit in 2026. The next step is to submit the self-study and other information about SSU. For more than a year, SSU has been working with the HLC agency in reaching this application stage. SSU administration and staff have also been preparing by learning and adopting policies and procedures that reflect the HLC standards. The Higher Learning Commission(HLC) is an institutional accreditor in the United States. The headquarters of the organization is in Chicago, Illinois. The United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation recognize the commission as an institutional accreditor.
