Madonna's History
Our story dates back to the late 90s, when Very Rev. Fr. Prof. E.M.P. Edeh

, founded the prestigious Madonna University. By 1999, she had commenced active operation with the approval of the Federal Government of Nigeria. That year, Madonna University not only became the first private Catholic university in the West African sub-region but also the first private university to be approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria, with its take-off campus at Okija, Anambra State.

currently operates under three campuses: in 2004 the main management campus was moved to Elele, Rivers State, with the Okija campus remaining one of its campuses, and in 2011 its Akpugo campus, for the engineering and technology sciences, came into full operation.
Vision
To produce graduates who can spread out to the world as Madonnites bringing peace and order; treating fellow humans as good and as worthy of honour and respect.
To remain in the front line in terms of learning, teaching and research.
Our Mission
Our mission as a Catholic University is to provide a service-oriented high-quality University education for the common good of African people and beyond. We seek to produce young men and women who would be decent in education and morals.
University Motto
Our motto, “
Dignitas Scientiae et Moralis
” – “Decency in Education and Morals” – serves as a beacon for every member of our university community.
It is a mantra that guides our intentions. It is our philosophy. It is our identity. It is who we are.
