What We Do
The Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture and Development strives to further Dr. Borlaug’s legacy of improving global food security, livelihoods, and resilience through applied agricultural research and Extension. Named in honor of the 1970 Nobel Prize winner and Father of the Green Revolution, the Borlaug Institute develops, coordinates, and leads international agricultural development programs in the following areas:
Agriculture & Food Security
Economic Growth & Trade
Education
Environment & Global Climate Change
Water & Sanitation
Working in Crises & Conflict
Our Global Impact
Whether as the prime contractor or as a subcontractor, the Borlaug Institute has implemented agricultural development, food security, and educational projects in 54 countries. Over the last several years, project funding has exceeded $139M, making the Borlaug Institute one of the largest such university-based organizations in the country.

Our Namesake, Dr. Norman Borlaug
Dr. Norman Borlaug was a agricultural scientist whose research with high-yield varieties of wheat in the 1960s in Mexico led to crop innovations that helped farmers around the globe feed more of the world’s population.
Dr. Borlaug came to Texas A&M University in 1984 as Distinguished Professor of International Agriculture, and founded the Office of International Agriculture Programs—renamed the Borlaug Institute in 2006—which continues to uphold his legacy of research, education, and service.
