The Orkney Natural History Society Museum (Stromness Museum) has embarked on a two-year project cataloguing and photographing the Museum’s Natural History collections. The project has a target of digitising and cataloguing 5000 specimens over two years, though the Museum’s Natural History collections are thought to be much larger than this.
The catalogue will be linked into the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, making the collections more accessible and connecting them with local, regional, national and global communities interested in biodiversity.
The project is supported by grants from: The Pebble Trust, OIC Crown Estate Community Led Development Fund, OIC North Isles Landscape Partnership Scheme, The Birsay Community Wind Turbine Fund, Stromness Museum, the Scottish Fisherman's Trust and The Orkney Fund.
