Important Info for Renters
The Randall Museum is open to the public 10am-5pm Tuesday through Saturday. During these times space availability is limited and shared spaces such as bathrooms and hallways will likely be busy.
The Randall Museum is a public facility subject to noise ordinances. Amplified sound after 10pm is not allowed.
There is no on-site storage; deliveries and set up must be made within the scheduled rental time frame.
Renters will be responsible for trash removal after events, we cannot guarantee trash disposal for an event of any size.
Alcohol may not be served at children’s events. A signed alcohol policy agreement is required to serve alcohol at adult events.
Common Questions
What is the payment and reservation policy?
Payment of 50% of total rental fee plus $200 damage deposit must be paid within one week of booking. All payments are processed through the SF Rec and Park department, all renters will need to confirm or create a SF Rec and Park account before you book.
What is the cancellation policy?
Rental fees may be fully or partially refunded based on the cancellation timeline:
Events cancelled over 1 month prior to the event will receive a full refund.
Events cancelled between 2 weeks and 1 month prior to the event will receive a 50% refund of rental fees.
Events cancelled less than 2 weeks prior to the event will not receive a refund of any rental fees.
In all cases the damage deposit will be refunded.
Are there additional fees?
Rental permits specify cleaning and late exit fees if necessary.
Can I have a kids birthday party with more than 30 kids?
Yes! You can add the Vista Lawn to your children’s birthday rental for $400, which accommodates up to 150 guests of any age. Please note that our Art Room and Animal Room each fit a maximum of 20 kids at one time, so we’ll split kids into groups of 20 for activities. Depending on the total number of children, not all children may be able to participate in the art or animal activity.
I’m looking to hold a private event with exclusive use of the museum, is this possible?
Exclusive use packages are available during limited times. To learn more, please submit a rental inquiry. Please note: The museum is open to the public Tuesday–Saturday, 10 AM–5 PM, and regularly hosts classes and community groups during evenings and weekends. As a result, exclusive use availability is limited.
Can I serve alcohol at my event?
Alcohol may be served at Randall events, excluding children’s birthday parties or family events. Mixed drinks and liquor must always be served by a licensed bartender.
Is there in house catering available?
Cafe Josephine serves fresh and seasonal meals and snacks at the Randall Museum and can cater your private event. Reach out to
inquire about catering via their website

ask our rentals team
to connect you. Outside caterers are welcome; we charge a $200 fee for these events with more than 20 people.
What audiovisual equipment is available?
In the theater, all rentals include one general stage light look, two wired microphones with stands, an onstage projection screen, and projector. More advanced requirements will need to be arranged through an external provider.
For events outside the theater, a portable speaker system with up to four microphones is available for rent. More advanced AV requirements may need to be arranged through an external provider.
Can I play music late into the night?
The Randall Museum is a public facility subject to noise ordinances. Amplified sound after 10pm is not allowed.
What clean up am I responsible for?
All events are required to haul out trash and make sure that floors, counters, and other surfaces are left clean. Cleanup typically includes bagging and removing trash, sweeping floors, and wiping down tables.
A Visitor Services staff member will verify that the space has been left clean and undamaged. If not, a 10% additional cleaning fee will be charged.
