Making the Transition to First Year College
Future students applying to first-year
associate or bachelor’s programs can apply at any time of the year, with no formal deadline in effect. Admission to the nursing program is the only exception and further information is provided below.
Admissions Requirements
Accepted Qualifications
Applicants seeking entry to an associate or bachelor’s program must present a high school diploma and an official transcript from an approved secondary school.
Students who do not possess a high school diploma must present a recognized High School Equivalency Diploma transcript of their NY State (or other) General Education test scores and a copy of their certificate.
Academic Entry Requirements
Students who have achieved a high school GPA of 71 or above will be considered for admittance to the institution (with the exception of the nursing program).
Students who have a GPA between 65 and 70 may participate in our conditional admittance program on a case-by-case basis.
Please note that all accepted first year students are required to take a skills assessment administered online, prior to class placement.
Nursing Admissions Requirements
Pre-licensure Track Admission Requirements (Freshman)
Freshmen (Fall Entry)
To be considered for direct entry into the Pre-Licensure Track, students must meet the following criteria:
SAT: 1050 or higher (super score) or ACT: 21 or higher (OPTIONAL )
Cumulative high school GPA of 85 90 or higher
Freshmen Transfer Students (Spring Entry)
The Department of Nursing will consider students who have completed their first semester of college and would like to transfer in the spring semester. To become a candidate for direct entry into the Nursing Program for spring entry, students must meet the following criteria:
SAT: 1050 or higher (super score) or ACT: 21 or higher(OPTIONAL )
Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher
Must earn a grade of "B-" or higher in BIO-1140, BIO-1141 and MAT-1105 prior to the fall semester
Pre-licensure Track Admission Requirements (Transfer)
Transfer Students (Fall Entry)
To become a candidate for entry into the Nursing Program for the Fall semester, transfer students must meet the following minimum criteria:
SAT: 1050 or higher (super score) or ACT: 21 or higher*(OPTIONAL )
Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher
Grade of B- or higher in all required math and science classes:
BIO-1140 (Anatomy & Physiology I)
BIO-1141 (Anatomy & Physiology II)
MAT-1105 (College Algebra)
At least 29 credits toward General Education Program requirements
Students will also be required to pass the following courses with a grade of B- or higher upon entry in the Fall semester, if they have not already successfully completed these courses:
MAT-2301 (Statistics)
CHE-1105 (Chemistry for the Health Sciences)
BIO-3300 (Microbiology)
Transfer Students (Spring Entry)
To become a candidate for entry into the Nursing Program for the Spring semester, students must meet the following criteria:
SAT: 1050 or higher (super score) or ACT: 21 or higher*
Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher
Grade of B- or higher in all required math and science classes:
BIO-1140 (Anatomy & Physiology I)
BIO-1141 (Anatomy & Physiology II)
MAT-1105 (College Algebra)
MAT-2301 (Statistics)
CHE-1105 (Chemistry for the Health Sciences)
BIO-3300 (Microbiology)
At least 35 credits toward General Education Program requirements
*Exception: The Department of Nursing will consider students who do not meet the standardized test score requirement but have a transfer GPA of 3.5 or higher and meet all other requirements.
RN to B.S. Track Admission Requirements
The RN to B.S. Track is offered to licensed registered nursing candidates. Registered nurse candidates must show evidence of current employment as a registered nurse. Once a student is accepted into the RN to B.S. Track, their transcripts will be evaluated for transfer credits. A total of up to 92 credits completed with grades of C or higher may be transferred, including up to 30 pre-licensure credits in nursing. Graduates of foreign nursing schools who have received certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) will be awarded 30 credits in nursing upon submission of the CGFNS certificate.
