You are attending college for the first time after graduating high school. (Even if you earned college credit during high school.)
Transfer student:
You have attended another college
after
high school graduation and you are transferring to CMU.
Returning student:
You attended CMU in the past (not as a concurrent student) and are returning to attend again.
International student:
