Established in 1997 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh with the
support of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, Dravidian University
is dedicated to the integrated development of Dravidian languages,
literature, culture, folklore, history and tribal studies. Located
at the tri-junction of three states, it serves as a beacon of
higher education in this region.

About
The School of Comparative Dravidian Literature and Translation Studies was established to explore and celebrate the richness of the five major southern Dravidian languages: Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tulu. Each of these languages is studied in depth within their respective departments. The school includes the Department of English and Communications, which aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of international literature. This integration ensures that students gain a well-rounded education, appreciating both the regional linguistic heritage and the global literary landscape. Through this multidisciplinary approach, the school fosters a deeper appreciation of the diverse linguistic and literary traditions of the Dravidian languages while also equipping students with the skills to engage with literature on an international scale.

To be a beacon of excellence in the study and promotion of Dravidian languages and literature, fostering a deep appreciation for the linguistic and cultural heritage of Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam,and Tulu.
The School aims to create a vibrant academic community that bridges the richness of regional literary traditions with the vast expanse of international literature, empowering our students to become global citizens with a profound understanding of the world’s diverse linguistic and literary landscapes.
Mission
The mission is to advance the study of Dravidian languages and their literature through research, teaching, and community engagement. This encompasses Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tulu, with the objective of enhancing cross-cultural understanding and global awareness.
The mission supports research dedicated to preserving Dravidian literary heritage and integrating it with global literary traditions. The institution aims to equip students with critical thinking skills for successful careers and to actively engage communities in promoting Dravidian culture.
The goal is to become a leading center for Comparative Dravidian Literature and Translation Studies, fostering the development of new scholars and enthusiasts.
