Georgetown University Medical Center provides its researchers with services and resources to support their work, including regulatory affairs, an accredited vivarium, sponsored research expertise, and clinical trial services. We encourage faculty to work with our Office of Technology Commercialization to protect intellectual property.
Each office listed here maintains policies in accordance with the guidelines established by the National Institutes of Health, government agencies, and best practices within the research community.
Clinical Research Operations Office
The Clinical Research Operations Office provides patients with current information about ongoing clinical studies at GUMC, helps sponsors identify Georgetown investigators to participate in their research, and assists Georgetown researchers with study start-up and administration in pre- and post-award.

Institutional Review Board
The IRB is responsible for the review and approval of all research involving human subjects, as well as scientific validity and ethical review.

The Office of Research Oversight’s activities are primarily concentrated in the areas of conflict of interest; conflict of commitment, export controls; malign foreign influence, research misconduct; and responsible conduct of research.

Institutional Compliance and Ethics
The Georgetown University Institutional Compliance and Ethics Program promotes compliance and ethical behavior and helps the university manage risk. Joint Office of Research Administration
The Joint Office of Research Administration (JORA) offers a full suite of pre- and post-award services to faculty across the university, including funding opportunity identification, proposal development and submission, award review, negotiation and set-up, and (in select cases) post-award grant management.

Office of Technology Commercialization manages Georgetown invention disclosures, patenting and licensing activities, copyright, agreements surrounding research activities, intellectual property agreements and assists University entrepreneurs in starting their own companies.
