An Advisor's approval is required in order for these students to register. The Academic Advisor assists students in adopting a program of study and creating an individual program of study document. Prior to the beginning of each term, these students are required to meet with the Advisor to whom they are assigned in order to review the status of their degree progress, to discuss university policies and departmental requirements, and to select courses. GOALS Develop students’ knowledge on their academic responsibility towards familiarizing themselves with the courses, course sequencing and load during their academic years. Encourage students to reach their full academic potential by setting up regular meetings, staying updated on their academic status and customizing course loads to each students’ capabilities. Personalize students’ experience by providing guidance on personal obstacles they face which influence their academic performance and conduct individualized follow-ups. Motivate student responsiveness in regards to key academic factors that affect students’ progress towards graduation. PROCEDURES AND GUIDELINES FOR ADVISING AND REGISTRATION AUD undergraduates are placed on Academic Advising Hold at the beginning of each term. Students are notified of the assigned advising and registration dates for each group. Students meet with their academic advisors during the assigned advising dates to clear the AA Hold. Students are required to clear all holds in order to have access to online registration. She has an extensive teaching experience in a number of colleges and universities in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. In addition to academic teaching, she is also a corporate trainer, a certified coach and a member in the “Editorial Advisory Panel” with Cengage Publishing company. She joins AUD with experience as a program academic coordinator at the undergraduate and graduate levels and in the fields of academic advising, curriculum review and accreditation. Fayetteville State University (NC). and Fayetteville Technical Community College (NC). She brings a wealth of expertise in advising, counseling. and student affairs. focusing on fostering student success and engagement. She has a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology from Troy State University and a history of helping students navigate academic, emotional, and cultural transitions. She has worked in a range of leading educational institutions in Lebanon, Switzerland, the UK, and the UAE, where he supported students through every stage of their academic journey. She brings strong expertise for admissions and registration, student services, program management, and international student engagement. She has built a distinguished career at the intersection of creative industries and academic innovation, having led multicultural teams and designed impactful training initiatives across French and Arab markets. Mirna's extensive leadership background includes serving as the Director of Undergraduate Studies at the lnstitut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA) in France and Chair of the Audiovisual Department at Universite Antonine in Lebanon. Her professional portfolio is equally diverse, spanning the full production cycle of mini-series, documentaries, and scripted programs for broadcasters in both France and Lebanon. She holds two master's degrees, in lngemedia from Universite de Toulon and in Information & Communication from Universite Antonine, along with bachelor's degrees in Philosophy from Universite Paris 8 and Audiovisual Studies from EFET. The subset offers a range of services to help students develop their own educational goals and succeed in their chosen program of study. For any inquiries or questions, drop us an email to: academicsupport@aud.edu TUTORING SERVICES As an AUD student you have access to the following support services: Writing Center The American University in Dubai offers the services of a Writing Center where all members of the AUD community (students/staff/faculty) can receive one-to-one assistance on writing tasks. Students can receive assistance on assignments at various stages of the process of completion. Assistance is provided by full- and part-time instructors on writing tasks in any discipline with a focus on developing overall academic writing skills. Throughout each semester, Writing Center staff offer workshops for all AUD members on various topics related to writing (i.e., sentence combining, in-text documentation, etc.). Check this link for updated hours of operation: Math Tutoring Center The Math Tutoring Center provides students enrolled in mathematics courses (including Math 090, 095, 101, 103, 104, 105, 200, 201, 205, 210, and 220) the opportunity to receive assistance in their efforts to be successful in these courses. The Center operates on a walk-in basis. There is no need to make an appointment. The tutors who staff the Center are students who have demonstrated an excellent ability to understand mathematics as well as an ability to help others understand. Students are encouraged to utilize the Center as often as needed. The Center operates throughout the semester (except for the first week of classes and the week of final exams) and is open Monday through Thursday (unless otherwise specified). To view the schedule and login link for the Math Tutoring Center, please visit this link: Engineering Tutoring Center The Engineering Tutoring Center at AUD provides Engineering students enrolled in physics and programming courses (PYHS 201, PHYS 202, ENGG 140, EECE 250) with the assistance they need to excel in these courses. The center aims to help students attain the outcomes required in terms of problem solving, experimentation, and algorithm development. Tutoring is provided by senior students who have extensive experience in these topics, as well as Engineering instructors. Connect directly with Ms. Sherine Amer at samer@aud.edu Public Speaking Tutoring Center The Public Speaking Tutoring Center (PSTC) welcomes any student to walk in and work one-to-one with a peer tutor on their oral communication skills. Students choose what they want to improve on and the tutor guides them through exercises, discussions, or practicing their full presentation for feedback. The PSTC remedies various student issues (e.g. anxiety) while aiding faculty (e.g. instructional assistance). Tutors are overseen by AUD’s Professor of Oral Rhetoric, and they are trained with an inventory of methods to assist students. Peer Tutors assist students with content-related issues and questions; discuss difficult academic concepts and provide novel and creative approaches to understanding them; listen attentively and provide clear explanations of academic problem areas and create a welcoming environment for students in academic distress.
