Tuition & Financial Aid - Newark Academy Affording NA Newark Academy recognizes that the cost of an independent school education represents a significant investment for any family and we are committed to ensuring that NA remains accessible and affordable to families across northern New Jersey. We are proud to offer nearly $5 million in financial aid each year. But at Newark Academy, we realize that the cost of an independent school includes more than just tuition. As a result, the above figure includes financial aid towards tuition as well as proportional aid on all required items and experiences. To determine need, we partner with Clarity How to Apply for Financial Aid Please complete your Financial Aid application using Clarity . Clarity takes into account a family’s income, assets, expenses, debt, and other factors when evaluating need. All completed applications submitted to Clarity are reviewed by Newark Academy’s Financial Aid Committee. Decisions are communicated to families in the spring of each year for the coming school year. To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. The Clarity Application is also mobile-friendly so you can complete it from anywhere. You are also able to save your progress and return at any time. At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit, and you can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity Application for no additional charge. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select those schools. Tuition Assistance applications will open in August 2025. As Clarity is operated by a third party, Newark Academy is not able to provide fee waivers New families - the financial aid application process is separate from the admission process. The Clarity Financial Aid Application must be completed online by November 1, 2025 for current families and January 12, 2026 for prospective families. Financial aid decisions and awards are issued with re-enrollment in January for returning families. Each student receiving financial aid also receives a discretionary allowance to help offset additional school-related expenses. Single Payment Semi-Annual Payment 10-Month Payment Plan Tuition and mandatory fees paid by July 15, 2025. There is no enrollment fee for the single payment plan. 70% tuition and fees paid by July 15, 2025 and 30% by December 15, 2025. There is no enrollment fee for the semi-annual payment plans. Due the 10th of each month from May 2025 - February 2026. The 10-month plan enrollment fee is $75. Except for the initial deposit, all families will pay tuition and fees electronically through FACTS Tuition. This plan provides substantial insurance protection in the event students must withdraw from school. Annual tuition charges both prepaid and due are insured. The Tuition Refund Plan fee will be billed as a one-time incidental fee through FACTS. The Tuition Refund Plan is mandatory for those families that elect the 10-month payment plan. Newark Academy provides more than $4.5M in need-based financial aid annually to ensure that Newark Academy remains accessible and affordable to families with varying financial circumstances. All financial aid at Newark Academy is need-based. NA does not offer merit-based scholarships. Need is defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the family’s ability to pay, which is calculated through Clarity , a third-party provider. To be eligible for financial aid, parents must complete a financial aid application and provide financial documentation through Clarity All Newark Academy families must create accounts and make payments via FACTS . For 2025-2026, there are three payment options available: Single Payment: Tuition and mandatory fees paid by July 15, 2025. Semi-Annual Payment: 70% tuition and fees paid by July 15, 2025 and 30% by December 15, 2025. 10-Month Payment Plan: Due the 10th of each month from May 2025 - February 2026 Unless a parent is deceased, Newark Academy expects that both biological parents contribute to a student’s tuition expenses. Therefore, financial information is required from both biological parents. Financial aid may not be granted if data from only one biological parent is provided. If one parent is not in contact with the student and has no role in the student’s life, Newark Academy will request the custodial parent complete a waiver as part of the financial aid application and awarding process. If a biological parent does not complete the financial aid process, they will not be given access to or receive any information from Newark Academy about their child. The income and assets of stepparents will be taken into consideration when determining a student’s financial aid grant. Newark Academy will also take into consideration the stepparent’s financial obligation to his, her, or their own biological children. We reserve the right to decline aid packages to families who do not provide income and asset information of stepparents. Newark Academy will impute wages of $30,000 annually for any non-working parent who has a child over the age of five. Consideration is made in the case of extenuating circumstances, for example, if the non-working spouse is responsible for a special needs child and/or elderly parent(s). All extenuating circumstances must be documented, in writing, at the time of application. Yes. Newark Academy requires that the Clarity financial aid application is submitted annually for all families requesting consideration for need-based financial aid. All applicants must provide all supporting documents directly to Clarity by the stated deadlines. Financial aid applications received after the deadline may not be considered. Completed applications are reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. Awards are granted in the spring and are for one year only. Newark Academy has made the monitoring and limiting of costs beyond tuition an important institutional priority. NA provides proportional aid on all required items, including lunch and technology fees, books, Immersion and Capstone experiences. For non-required items, the school’s budget has been expanded in order to absorb incidental costs traditionally borne by families. Each student receiving financial aid will receive an allowance from NA’s discretionary budget to use at their discretion for other school-related expenses. Textbooks and other course materials cost approximately $500 - $750 per year. For families receiving financial aid, proportional aid is provided for textbooks and other course materials. Athletic team gear costs approximately $100 per sport. For families receiving financial aid, proportional aid is provided for athletic team gear and equipment.
