As generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into higher education, students navigate a pedagogical landscape characterized by varied faculty expectations, uneven policy guidance, and growing uncertainty regarding appropriate use. Recent
reporting and research
indicate that many students experience anxiety, confusion, and, in some cases, diminished trust in relation to AI in academic contexts. Concerns about the reliability of detection tools, as well as their potentially disparate impacts on different student populations, further complicate considerations of fairness and academic integrity.
This workshop centers the perspectives of SJSU undergraduate and graduate students to better understand how they are experiencing this evolving landscape, and to explore the policies and practices that can help foster trust in the pedagogical relationship.
The program will feature a moderated roundtable with six SJSU students, followed by a faculty reflection in an engaging, fireside chat-style conversation with Dr. Deanna Fassett (Communication Studies, CoSS) and Dr. Ryan Skinnell (English, H&A). We will also hear from the deans' leadership teams highlighting innovative and emerging work on AI, pedagogy, and trust across both colleges, with time for engaging questions and discussion with attendees.
The workshop will be offered in both in-person and online formats. Registration is available
