Earth Day 2026
is celebrated on April 22. This year’s theme,
Our Power, Our Planet
, focuses on renewable energy and the need to commit to harnessing renewable energy to build a healthy, sustainable, equitable and prosperous future.
At DNREC, Earth Day is What We Do All Year Long
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control offers a variety of activities and ideas to build that future as we celebrate Earth Day throughout the month of April (and every other day).
Earth Day
began in April of 1970, when Americans gathered together to raise awareness of pollution and the effects of pollution.
Since then, Earth Day has served as a focal point for outdoor activities, volunteer efforts, and environmental education in Delaware and around the nation.
