Zafer Hatahet, Ph.D.
Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
Zafer Hatahet, Ph.D.
Dr. Hatahet spent the first 15 years of his career conducting biomedical research and training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Tyler. His research focused on DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation and the biological systems responsible for its repair. Since 2005, he assumed administrative responsibilities, serving as the Head of the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences at Northwestern State University of Louisiana until 2015, and Division Head of Science and Engineering at Penn State University Abington College from 2015 to 2021. He is keenly interested in improving access to STEM education, especially to students from populations underrepresented in the science and technology workforce.

Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology
Two brand-new, state-of-the-art laboratories, the Forensic Lab and Biology Lab, will provide vast opportunities for active learning and experience with professional-grade equipment. All of the biology and chemistry courses have accompanying hands-on laboratory components. Activities include evidence collection, crime scene investigation, tissue sampling and analysis, and will include a heavy emphasis on DNA techniques.

The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Psychology will expand the knowledge of human behavior and mental processes as it applies to the civil, legal and criminal environments. Students will gain a thorough understanding of the basic approaches to behavioral and cognitive science, the U.S. legal system, the role of social, cultural and organizational contexts in human behavior and attitude, and how these tools can be used to understand, evaluate and predict human behavior in a variety of situations.

The Bachelor of Science in Human Factors Psychology at Embry-Riddle, one of the only bachelor’s programs in this field in the country, is designed for students who want to analyze the way something functions and its level of efficiency and work toward improving it. The degree integrates an understanding of how humans function intellectually, emotionally and physiologically with interdisciplinary knowledge and theory to improve efficiency and functionality in products and systems with which we interface.
