Worker Training Program
Both the NIEHS Worker Training Program (WTP) and the
Superfund Research Program (SRP)
receive funding through the Appropriations Subcommittees on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies. The two NIEHS programs were established under the
Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA)
As part of the budget process, NIEHS annually submits
Superfund Congressional Justification
to be included in the President's budget. (It is important to note that WTP's efforts at U.S. Department of Energy sites are not reported in the Superfund Congressional Justification. This is because these training efforts do not fall within the scope of SARA).
Subsequent to the release of the President's budget, NIEHS submits its Congressional Testimony to the appropriate appropriations subcommittee. The testimony updates Congress on the status of WTP and SRP and highlights recent accomplishments.
