Volunteers
We look forward to welcoming researchers at The Common Room in our newly refurbished, accessible building.
Whether you have a general search request or you already know the specific item you wish to see, our catalogue is the perfect place to start. Many of our items are digitised and available to view today! If you need further help, please do get in touch.
Reading room opening hours
The Alan Reece Reading Room will be generally open to researchers 10:00am-4:00pm Tuesday-Friday. Please note that we do close for training, special events and full building bookings. Due to limited staffing we ask all researchers to please book in advance of their visit to prevent disappointment.

Reading room guidelines
We ask that all researchers follow basic guidelines to protect our collections for future generations. This includes simple things like making notes in pencil rather than pen. Do feel free to bring your digital devices and enjoy our free WiFi throughout the building to assist your work. No food or drink is permitted within the Alan Reece Reading Room, however we can find your space to eat packed lunch if requested.
View cafe bar
We provide full wheelchair access throughout the building. A height adjustable table is also available for researchers in the Alan Reece Reading Room. If your disability prevents you from travelling to us or using paper based resources, please get in touch and we will aim to provide items via suitable digital means wherever possible.
