Community Nature Walks
Spend time
in
local parks and
out on
trails with other active adults from the Skagit area. All community members are welcome. Every walk
includes
time to connect with other participants and
learn about resources to
benefit
your health and
wellbeing
All walks range between 1-3 miles and are considered easy to easy-moderate. To give participants the opportunity to fully take in their surroundings we provide frequent breaks and walk at a slow to moderate pace. Each session will also include warm-up exercises to prepare the body for safe movement and cool-down exercises to promote gradual recovery.

In 2025, we explored 15 trails across our community through 20 group nature walks. Thank you to everyone who joined and supported Skagit Nature Rx!
Walks will resume in Spring 2026.

Nature and Health
Decreases Stress
Being outdoors helps decrease stress by reducing stress-producing hormones, lowering heart rate, and decreasing blood pressure.
Boosts Your Immune System
Spending time in nature can strengthen your immune system. Plants release airborne particles that when breathed in, have been found to increase your immune cell count and ultimately help you fight off disease.
Supports Healthy Brain Function
Did you know that going on a walk outdoors can help you think better, solve problems faster, and focus better on tasks?
Reduces Fatigue
Research has shown that individuals who spend time in nature experience reduced fatigue and increased energy levels.
Improves Mental Health
Did you know that people who spend time outdoors report lower stress levels, decreased anxiety, and less depression?

“Often I was not really in the mood/wanting to go to the walks, however after I went I was so happy and proud of myself for attending. I will make more of an effort to remember how good I felt afterwards and motivate myself to get outside in nature more.”

Donna K.
“It was always a fun, entertaining, informative walk. The instructions of when and where to meet were always clear and easy to follow. The walks were easy enough for anyone to participate and I loved learning about new places in the area.”
Jenna D.
“It was fun to see and/or revisit some of our area’s beautiful trails and to meet new friends along the way.  I hope to be able to connect again with the Skagit Nature Rx “Walking for Wellbeing” program, and to share it with family and friends.”
