Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE)
is a not-for-profit association of international schools around the world promoting exemplary school leadership and research-based, effective and innovative educational practices. As an autonomous organization, AAIE was legally incorporated in 1966 with a mandate to further and continuously improve international education and cultural understanding across independent overseas schools. AAIE serves a diverse global community providing leadership development across the ever-changing and expanding spectrum of educational programming initiatives and issues.

The AAIE Mission is our declaration of the unique identity to which we aspire–describing who we serve, our specific purpose, and what we seek to achieve for our membership.  Our mission describes the extraordinary purpose of AAIE– and serves as a focal point toward which we concentrate disciplined action, effort, resources, and energy.  AAIE is your place to gather as a world community throughout the year – to belong, to learn together, and to know that to engage in envisioning the future of learning is the underpinning of success for our students.

AAIE's first conference was held in Atlantic City in 1967. Since that time, our members have come to look forward to our Annual Global Leadership Conversations, where Heads of Schools and School Leaders in international education come together to learn from one and another. These conversations began after the 2020 AAIE Global Leadership CONVERSATION, when the need for meaningful dialogue among international school leaders became clear. What started as a timely response quickly grew into a weekly lifeline for leaders navigating unprecedented challenges. Since then, we have continued to meet every Thursday sustaining connection, learning, and support through the unexpected.
