Transition to Professional Nursing Program (TPNP)
At Driscoll Children’s Hospital, we know outstanding patient care is only possible with an outstanding nursing staff. We’re excited to welcome new nursing residents to our hospital—helping shape life-changing and life-saving healthcare to come.
The Registered Nurse (RN) Residency Program provides comprehensive extended nursing orientation based on current theories and concepts using evidence-based practices. Our TPNP is unique to Driscoll Children’s Hospital—developed by expert competent professionals within our hospital specifically for the novice nurse. Whether you are providing care to the neonate or the adolescent, our program instructors and multidisciplinary professional staff are there to help build your pediatric nursing foundation in a supportive and structured environment.
Our mission is to prepare and offer novice nurses the necessary tools, education and resources needed for the transition from a graduate nurse to a professional registered nurse.

Program Overview
Approximately six months of competency-based orientation
18 didactic class days
Simulation and skills sessions built into classes
Legal and ethics training when caring for pediatric clients and their families
Minimum Requirements:
Must be graduating (or have graduated in the past year) from an accredited school of nursing
Must submit a complete application (see requirements below)
GPA of 3.00 or higher is preferred
BLS required upon hire
Limited openings make Driscoll’s TPNP highly competitive. Selection will be based on meeting the minimum requirements, GPA, completed application, resumé and the interview process.
Required Application Process:
Complete the online application – It will be available here when accepting applications for the next cohort.
Attach a cover letter that includes what interests you about nursing (specifically pediatrics).
Attach a current resumé.
Attach a recent copy of an unofficial school transcript.
Optional: Attach up to 2 letters of recommendation.
Important Information and Dates:
RN license must be obtained before day 1 of Class (Didactic).
Selections for interviews will be made based on meeting the minimum requirements, GPA, submission of complete application, resumé, etc.
The interview process will include a panel interview and a possible follow-up peer interview.
Hiring selections will be made for unit-specific decisions based on the above processes.
