Test-Free Admissions
Hampshire was among the first schools in the country to be test optional, a policy the College has followed since opening in 1970. While Hampshire has never required SATs or ACTs, in the past we would review these scores if a student wished to submit them as part of an application. As of 2014, we haven't even accepted them; we are entirely test free in our admissions process.

Hampshire isn’t unconventional just for difference’s sake. Our model of education is intentionally designed to help you become an agent of momentous change. Our approach to learning allows you to pursue inquiry, ideate, take risks, and seek challenges. We give you the confidence to exercise creative and critical thinking skills, in order to solve complex problems and work across disciplines on campus and in your field after graduation.

Collaboration is at the core of who we are.
Learning is done together at Hampshire—whether through research partnerships with faculty, community learning projects, or Learning Collaboratives built around urgent questions.
And beyond campus, Hampshire partners with Amherst, Smith, Mount Holyoke Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst to form the Five College Consortium. Through this unique educational collaboration, you’ll have access to expanded resources like extensive course options, libraries, and student organizations.
