About the library
Duns Scotus Library
, dedicated in 1950, was named for the 13th-century Franciscan philosopher John Duns Scotus. The library was originally created as a high school library to serve the educational growth of the Sisters of Saint Francis, Sylvania and later evolved to a junior college to what is now an academic library at Lourdes University. In addition to physical books and periodicals, the library has dedicated Franciscan-related materials, a rare book collection, and other special collections. Today the library serves the Lourdes University and Sisters of Saint Francis, Sylvania communities as well as the general public. The Library is part of the OhioLINK and OPAL consortiums, providing additional print and electronic access to resources. The library is located at the west end of St. Clare Hall where it intersects with Umbria Hall.
The Library uses the Dewey Decimel System as the classification scheme. The library catalog is Ex Libris' Primo OneSearch, which provides access to the Lourdes library catalog, OhioLINK and OPAL catalogs, and additional interlibrary loan (ILL) resources all from one place.
