Mission Statement
The Pine School is an independent college preparatory school educating students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade. We promote academic, artistic, and athletic excellence in a close-knit learning environment that extends from the classroom to our expansive natural campus and beyond. Our challenging curriculum cultivates intellectual curiosity and honors each student's voice as we strive for inclusivity. From a strong sense of community and connection, Pine School students become inspired and prepared to navigate a complex and changing world.
If you have ever walked on The Pine School's campus, you know what a special place it is. Our commitment to education creatively prepares our students for college and beyond. Our dedication to community ensures a safe and nurturing environment where students can challenge themselves and grow in meaningful ways.
Statement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access
We at The Pine School are committed to continuous growth by examining and learning from diverse perspectives as an active, necessary pursuit. We encourage the respectful expression of different life experiences, thoughts, and opinions and cultivate an atmosphere in which thoughtful dialogue can flourish. We recognize and appreciate all abilities, colors, family structures, gender identities, national or ethnic origins, races, religions, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Those who learn from, work at and support The Pine School commit to building an inclusive community.
Our History
The Pine School was founded in 1969 and was located on a Stuart campus just outside of the downtown area.
In 1975, the school changed its name to St. Michael’s School and became affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese.  In 1994, that affiliation ended and the school became St. Michael’s Independent School.  In 2006, the school returned to its original name of The Pine School to honor its roots and to reflect its status as an independent school that welcomes students of all faiths.
In 2007, Middle School and Upper School students moved to a new campus in Hobe Sound.  The 174-acre campus is one of the richest ecological areas in Martin County.  The entire Hobe Sound campus serves as an environmental studies classroom. The state-of-the-art facility includes classrooms equipped with computers and SmartBoard technology, a multi-media center, athletic fields, art and performing arts areas, science labs, a gym, and a dining hall.
In 2015, the Stuart campus relocated to the Hobe Sound campus - making use of the extensive space and natural beauty. This move united Kindergarten through 12th Grade on one campus and has poised the School to best serve our students and their families well into the future.
“In the landscape of Treasure Coast educational options, The Pine School offers a unique learning environment,” shares Head of School Binney Caffrey. “PINE is a School where children grow and develop, but it is also a place that inspires, challenges, and fosters a life-long love of learning. From creative problem-solving and collaborative group projects to an ever present focus on superior reading, writing and math, our students hone skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.”
