Each year, Rochester Art Center presents a wide array of contemporary art exhibitions. These exhibitions offer visitors the opportunity to connect with art by local, regional, and nationally working artists.

March 25 - October 4, 2026
Rochester Art Center is proud to present the first public display of its permanent collection since its 75 year anniversary exhibition in 2021. Prior to that, the collection had been resting since the museum relocated to its current building in 2004, when an emphasis was placed on attracting contemporary exhibitions to Rochester.

Hard Copy
November 29, 2025 - August 2, 2026
Rochester Art Center presents "Hard Copy," a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Erin Smith. For the past few years, Smith’s practice has largely existed at the intersection of digital and physical media, a space she explores mainly through the lens of ceramics.

September 13, 2025 - May 10, 2026
Face in Clouds, invisible ink is a solo exhibition by NYC-based artist Ryan Woodring. The exhibition encompasses several recent bodies of work that proceed both literally and figuratively out of a reckoning with invisible illness.

Spirit Trees
April 29 - November 15, 2026
Spirit Trees is a group exhibition that celebrates the many ways trees support life on this planet and their longstanding witness to human history. Trees are sacred to Indigenous communities and also are fundamental to connecting all humans with nature. They are a connector with the land and they bring communities together. The exhibition features three contemporary artists with diverse backgrounds whose work uses primarily natural materials and directly addresses our connection to nature. Their work fosters deep reflections around the role of nature and art in sustaining life.

Extraordinary Elsewhere
June 7, 2025 - April 26, 2026
This exhibition features artworks by international artists whose interdisciplinary practices are distributed across a variety of media including and not limited to dance, soft sculpture, site-specific installation, animation, and participatory poetry.

The Choreography
March 14, 2026 - March 2027
Rochester Art Center presents an exhibition by Minneapolis-based textile artist and dancer Alexandra Beaumont. The exhibition includes artworks from her 2024 series Techniques for Ecstasy and The Choreography, a new installation that expands on Beaumont’s research on dance floors as spaces of joy, community-building and resistance.

Ageless Art
April 12 - May 11, 2026
Ageless Art showcases the creativity of students in Rochester Public Schools. Artwork on view will represent students ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade and include various mediums including painting, digital arts, clay arts and photography.

Moudhi Alhajri: Qatari Heritage
December 2024 - March 2027
This exhibition features photographs of Qatari people, animals, and scenery. Alhajri layers as many as six digital images to add qualities of texture and evoke a multi-sensory experience.

Ascend
2024-2034
In 2024, we installed two magnificent 50-foot-tall window installations by the talented duo Alyssa Baguss and Erin Sharkey. These installations serve, not only as artistic expressions, but also act as deterrents to the tragic bird collisions that have plagued our building since its construction in 2004.

Forms of Care: The Art of Representing the Body
May 16, 2026 - January 31, 2027
This group exhibition grapples with the timely debate around the ethics of representation within the artistic fields that pride themselves on depicting the human body closely and with attention: medical illustration, figurative drawing, and portraiture, and how these fields have struggled to be inclusive and ethically center diverse perspectives.
