Our Mission
The Department of Public Service (PSD) is part of Vermont’s Executive Branch of state government. The Department represents the public interest in energy, telecommunications, water, and wastewater utility services.
PSD’s mission is to serve Vermonters by helping ensure utility services are affordable, reliable, safe, and environmentally responsible. This work supports both current needs and long-term planning for Vermont’s communities and economy. The Department carries out this mission through public advocacy, planning, policy development, and programs that support the effective delivery of utility services.
A key part of PSD’s work is consumer protection. The Department provides information, assistance, and advocacy to help individuals understand their utility services, resolve concerns, and participate in public processes. Through these efforts, PSD works to strengthen Vermont’s quality of life, economy, and public interest.
