Academics and Research
Buck Institute for Aging Research
The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and the Novato-based
Buck Institute for Research on Aging
have a long and productive history of collaboration. In fact, USC faculty had a major influence in the creation and early direction of the Buck Institute. In 2014 the two institutions came together to launch the nation’s first
PhD program in the biology of aging
and in 2020 they received a five-year, $4.6 million National Institute on Aging award to jointly establish a Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging, a fully integrated multi-institutional center focused on training the next generation of geroscientists and providing access to cutting edge geroscience technologies to investigators across the nation.
Cornell University
In a unique cross-university collaboration, the
Master of Arts in Senior Living Hospitality
includes several online courses from eCornell’s hospitality certificate programs, authored by leading faculty from the Cornell University Nolan School of Hotel Administration. In addition to their USC degree, students in this program have the opportunity to complete eCornell’s Certificate in Hospitality.
Professional Education

Bank of America Merrill Lynch
This program offers insights into the latest advances, research and experiences associated with the sociological, psychological and physiological aspects of aging and their implications across all generations of the workforce. Available only to companies for whom Bank of America Merrill Lynch provides retirement and benefit plan services, which represent more than 35,000 companies and more than 5 million employees. It is an introduction to a groundbreaking longevity training program for human resources (HR) and benefit plan professionals. Program participants learn about the importance of and issues associated with longevity and retirement planning through a deeper exploration of seven life priorities, including health, home, family, giving, leisure, work and finances.
Hartford Center for Mature Market Excellence
A major goal of the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is to develop and support skilled, educated and networked professionals who can respond to the increasing demand for home modification services. The Hartford partnered with USC to design a customized home modification certification program for contracting professionals. The six-week-long training program can be done completely online.
