This week HAO proudly took part in National Science Week, embracing this year’s inspiring theme: “Curiosity – What’s Your Question?”
We believe every great idea begins with a question.

So we ask our whole community: What’s your question?

Well done to our Year 8 and Year 9 football teams, who both won their tense and entertaining matches, by 1 goal. Both our goalkeepers saving last minute penalties to hold out for the win! Great effort by all!

How We Learn
Enrichment
Enrichment
All students in Y7-9 have a timetabled Enrichment class that is built into their timetable. This means that all students will attend at least one enrichment per week, with many attending far more.
Why not take part in our huge range of
clubs and activities
, including table tennis, chess, cheerleading, STEM, boxing, rounders and much besides.
Our enrichment programme offers a broad and interesting variety of activities. They aim to extend and develop what students study during the day and provide opportunities for them to make accelerated progress and learn about new, more challenging concepts.
We also offer a huge range of
visits and trips
as well as the opportunity to take part in
performances and productions
Harris Experience
The Harris Experience is a programme for the
most-able
secondary school students across the Harris Federation. It broadens students’
cultural and academic experiences
to give them outstanding preparation for some of the country’s top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
Students are exposed to a wide range of cultural experiences including special events at Christie’s auctioneers, visits to the Royal Opera House, science events at Imperial College and bespoke lectures at the University of Oxford. Find out more about the
Harris Experience
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Students at Harris Academy Orpington have the opportunity to gain a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. For the past seven decades, the charity has inspired and transformed the lives of millions of young people from all walks of life. From volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions, achieving a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities.
For more information about the awards at Harris Academy Orpington contact our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award co-ordinator Alex Spooner at

Jack Petchey Foundation
Established in 1999, the Jack Petchey Foundation makes grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25. There are nine awards per academic year from September to June and all award winners celebrate their achievements at an awards ceremony which is held in November. Students are nominated and winners chosen by their peers.
Each winner receives £200 to spend on something for the school, for example, something academic, such as books, or something to celebrate achievements, such as a special trip for a club, or an addition to the playground.
The Jack Petchey Foundation exists to raise the aspirations of young people, to help them take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.
