Rewards
Any system of rewards should recognise that the long-term aim must always be to encourage children and young people towards positive behaviour because of their sense of right or wrong and/or because of their self-esteem and self-satisfaction.
Across the whole school, staff encourage and support positive behaviour, by making sure that all pupils and students are aware of what is expected of them, and how they can achieve their rewards.
Credits
St Dominic’s “Credits” give pupils a chance to earn credits in 4 different categories (Communication, Independence, Learning and Citizenship) across the whole school day in both lessons and all unstructured times. The skills that are required for our pupils to meet the criteria of the 4 categories are embedded and taught throughout the curriculum but are specifically enhanced and taught discreetly through our Need Led Curriculum where each category has its own focus. The system has been specifically designed to enable all pupils to be able to achieve their goals and suits individual needs by allowing pupils to either cash in their credits for short term smaller rewards or to save them up for longer-term larger rewards. Pupils have the opportunity to cash in their credits twice during each half term and can choose from a varied selection of rewards as can be seen in the table below.
This is an inclusive system where pupils can work at their own pace to achieve specific goals and rewards of their choosing. They tailor it to themselves in a holistic way and staff seek advice and guidance through meetings and surveys to improve the process as the whole school progresses. Reward options seen in the table below will change and grow over time as student feedback changes.  It is designed for pupils to monitor their credits in a more private manner should they wish and to create a sense of community as they share chosen experiences together with friends and peers.
