College of Arts and Sciences
forms the academic core of the Carolina experience and is the place many call the heart of the University.

general education curriculum is designed to prepare students to become lifelong learners and informed and engaged citizens. Students gain the critical thinking and analytical skills they need for whatever career path they choose and wherever their lives lead them. Although some students will go on to pursue an undergraduate degree in one of Carolina’s outstanding professional schools, more than 75% of all Carolina students will graduate from the College, selecting one or more majors from dozens offered by our 43 academic departments and curricula.
