As we move towards becoming a fully co-educational school, we understand that families may have questions. This page provides clear answers to the most common queries and will continue to be updated as our co-educational journey progresses.
Is Sir William Perkins’s School becoming co-educational?
Yes. Sir William Perkins’s School is becoming fully co-educational, with boys joining Year 7 and Year 12 from September 2026 and a phased transition to all year groups by 2030.
When will SWPS be fully co-educational?
SWPS will be fully co-educational by 2030, following a phased introduction that begins with Year 7 and Year 12 in September 2026.
Which year groups will be co-educational and when?
Co-education will be introduced in stages:
2026: Year 7 and Year 12
2027: Year 7, Year 8, Year 12 and Year 13
2028: Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 12 and Year 13
2029: Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 12 and Year 13
2030: All year groups fully co-educational
Can boys apply to SWPS?
Yes. Boys can apply to join SWPS for entry into Year 7 and Year 12 from September 2026, with additional year groups becoming co-educational as part of the phased transition to 2030.

Will the admissions process change?
No. The admissions process remains the same, with applications assessed through our established procedures for Year 7 and Sixth Form entry.
What is the Pioneer cohort?
The Pioneer cohort is the first group of girls and boys joining SWPS in September 2026. As the inaugural co-educational year groups, these students will help shape the culture, leadership and traditions of a fully co-educational school.
Why is SWPS moving to co-education?
SWPS is moving to co-education to reflect the world beyond school and to provide an environment where girls and boys learn alongside each other, preparing them for future study, careers and life.
What will co-education be like at SWPS?
Co-education at SWPS will bring girls and boys together in a dynamic, supportive and ambitious environment, building on the school’s strong academic foundation, co-curricular opportunities and sense of community.
Will standards or academic results change?
No. SWPS will continue to deliver high academic standards, with co-education enhancing the learning environment through greater diversity of perspectives and collaboration.
How will the transition to co-education be managed?
The transition will be carefully phased from 2026 to 2030, ensuring that facilities, teaching and pastoral support evolve in line with each new cohort joining the school.
