Connecting regional priorities | Metro
Metro manages a range of different systems and services across greater Portland that cross city and county lines, such as planning for transportation or managing parks and trails. The areas within Metro’s scope are interconnected by specific goals and outcomes that guide the Metro Council’s decisions and policies. These include:
Creating safe and affordable housing for all incomes and supporting people who need help finding or staying in housing.
Protecting clean air, water, habitat and the climate. This means reducing carbon pollution and protecting farms, forests and natural areas.
Cultivating economic opportunities to ensure people and businesses can thrive here.
Serving and engaging communities so decisions about the region represent broadly shared priorities and everyone benefits from the outcomes.
Meet the Metro Council
The Metro Council consists of a president, elected regionwide, and six councilors who are elected by district every four years in nonpartisan races. The Council works with community leaders and constituents across city and county boundaries.
