Speaker 1:
My name is Crissy Bruni. I'm from Ocala, Florida, and this is where I grew up, in the country. I'm in a program in the Navy called Career Intermission, where I'm in the inactive reserves; and I am going to school to Rasmussen University, and I have three years, and then I will go back into the Navy with a contract for six more years.
Speaker 2:
I was very excited that Chrissy was enrolling to be a nurse because I believe that that is her calling, and it is her passion.
Speaker 1:
About 20 years ago, we suffered a huge tragedy, where I do have a brother; he went to prison for life.
Speaker 2:
It was very hard for her; she went through a hard time. It happened, she was at FSU and had to leave school.
Speaker 1:
And that was really a turning point for me to become who I am today.
Speaker 2:
Sometimes Crissy doesn't think she's enough, and she is. Um, and I see it every day.
Speaker 3:
The students that have so many barriers to achieving this goal of getting a nursing degree, those are the ones that are most inspiring when they achieve that.
Speaker 1:
Rasmussen added fuel to the fire to make it, you know, positive for me by really supporting that I'm a single mom of a four-year-old, I'm working a full-time job, I have to go back into the Navy, I'm on a timeline, you know. Rasmussen made it so, ‘Hey, yes, we can do this. We have a program that you can accelerate and if you put in the work, we're going to be there on the other side for you to help you get through it.’
I've done this for my son; Kingston's my world. I want him to come out of this as not only being proud of me as his mother, but also knowing that the impossible is possible.
Speaker 2:
I'm always so proud of her.
Speaker 1:
Once I get my nursing degree, I plan to work for a little while. I would love to do labor and delivery, and then I would love to eventually get my nurse practitioner and become a midwife.
I want [my son] to come out of this as not only being proud of me as his mother, but also knowing that the impossible is possible for him.

Speaker 1:
My name is Vrinda Patel. I work as an RN, and I went to Rasmussen University, where I got my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
My grandma was the person who always showed me and reminded me to give myself more credit than I do.
She passed away 20 years after being, off of the ventilators.
My mom was told that my grandma would only have maybe a couple minutes to a couple hours. So they signed the paperwork for a DNR. Five hours went by. She was still with us. Six hours went by 24...20 years later, she was still with us.
Getting that second chance to having a grandparent, I don't know where I would be I don't think I would be here today in the nursing world if I didn't see her make it out of the medical trauma she went through.
2020 was a rough year for both of us. My brother was graduating nursing school and I was graduating high school with our parents halfway across the world, it was Covid. They were stuck in India, couldn't get a flight back.
So we were both in our graduating year alone. Classes abruptly transitioned to online. And I saw how much Rasmussen helped him. Seeing him graduate in Covid, with all the support that they had given, pushed me to go there as well because I knew, I didn't want to go to just any university, I would need some help navigating the college experience. And I saw that with him. They truly helped him get to where he needed to be.
Speaker 2:
Vrinda and I work at the same hospital. She's a compassionate nurse. She gives her patients the time that they need. Listens to them, talks to them. I hear from different reports from the nursing team in leadership team. Whenever I'm in management meetings and I just check in with the manager. Hey, how's she doing? And they're like, she's doing great patients love her.
It's great to hear that.
Speaker 1:
To save a patient's life is definitely very rewarding, to say the least.
I had a patient was in for heart failure. I went in to do my hourly rounding and, Said patient was not responding. And then he went into, abnormal cardiac rhythm.
Turned into a code blue.
I've participated in codes before, but not on my own patient. So when it becomes your own patient, you become charge of the room. And I will tell you, the very real world simulation experiences that Rasmussen was surely one of those things that made this event a great turnout.
My grandmother would definitely be proud. She would be sitting here right next to me, holding my hand and telling me that I did it.
There is a huge realm of differences in the nursing world versus any other career. It can hit you all at once. Are you ready for the academic challenge? Are you ready for the actual work challenge? Are you ready?
(upbeat music)
RU Ready means being ready for both the academic and real-world challenges of nursing. When you question if you're ready, think about your ‘why.’ If you don’t have a ‘why’ yet, find one. That will keep you going.

Speaker 1:
My name is Arnold Bogerty, and prior to me enrolling in Rasmussen, I spent 16 years in the military, 12 in Special Forces as an army Green Beret. I ended up getting injured over in Afghanistan and that allowed me to retire a little bit early. My wife and I, we moved down here to Tampa, but there was an experience that kind of changed my life a little bit. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer. It was really a turning point.
I decided to become a nurse because of the care that was provided for me. I don't have too many fears in life, but I do fear of being forgotten. And I know that if you can do something to make an impact in other people's lives, you know, you leave a legacy. And I think that's the greatest satisfaction in the world, is to be able to impact somebody else. And that's what nursing does.
Speaker 2:
The advice that, that I, I would give to Arnold to start a new career in nursing is to bring forward your previous experiences. And, um, because it would make him a very unique nurse, it would bring a different purpose and a meaning for him.
Speaker 3:
When Arnold first told me that he wanted to become a nurse, it really took me by surprise. Within one week, he was ready trying to figure out what school he was going to go to. He within the month, he, he already started school within that month. Like he is just, he doesn't stop.
Speaker 1:
I was recommended to Rasmussen by a former student, and she said she loved the culture. She said it was a family atmosphere. You weren't just a number. And so, I went to visit the campus and as soon as I walked in, the way we were greeted—I was actually greeted by another veteran and he showed me around the campus. And so that really made me feel right at home.
The facilities were amazing. I met with an enrollment counselor, and it was very simple. She was knowledgeable, knew exactly, you know, what the program had to offer. She answered all of my questions. I knew before I left if that was the school that I was going to attend. Well, in the immediate future with my degree, I plan on working at the hospital, you know, after I get my BSN. But I also plan on continuing my education as well.
The ultimate goal is to become a nurse anesthetist. You know, once my boys go off to school and me and my wife are empty nesters, you know, to travel and to do traveling, nursing, that way we can see the world; we can see the country, and we can also make an impact as well in other people's lives.
The advice that I would give to someone who, who may be considering their career in nursing is one, just do it. Don't allow other people's opinions or biases, you know, stop you from achieving your goal. You know, you're never too old to start over.
Since starting out at Rasmussen, I would say I’ve grown a lot as a person. That family atmosphere, that caring atmosphere that they have; it’s made me a better person.
Arnold B.
BSN program student
My biggest advice to new nursing students is to stick with it and don’t be afraid to ask for help... Take a break if you need to and ask for support. Rasmussen was always willing to help me.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Have Questions?
Look Here.
Q:
What is the meaning of BSN for a degree?
BSN is an undergraduate degree which stands for Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A BSN degree is one way to pursue your RN licensure or gain more advanced skills if you’re already an RN.
Q:
What types of skills will I gain from this program?
Patient Care
Enhance critical-thinking skills for better patient outcomes with a focus on caring for the whole person through in-person simulations and clinical course experiences at healthcare facilities in a variety of healthcare systems.
Evidence-Based Practice and Treatment
Search and critique published research. Propose creative, innovative and evidence-based solutions to clinical practice problems.
Leadership and Professional Identity
Examine the core values needed to create a professional identity that reflects leadership and management attributes.
Baccalaureate Essentials, QSEN and NLN Competencies
Gain a solid theoretical foundation of nursing according to the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice, Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN), and National League for Nursing (NLN) competencies.
Q:
Is BSN considered a higher qualification than RN?
RN is a licensed credential that individuals earn and maintain (as well as a job title), while a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a degree that many registered nurses obtain.
While you can still become an RN without earning a BSN degree, the major difference is the path and time commitment required. You can go straight to the job market as an RN with your associate degree, or you can opt to begin at a more advanced level of education with a BSN degree. Having a BSN under your belt may open the door to a greater variety of career options in specialized nursing units as well as nursing management and leadership roles.
Q:
Can one obtain a BSN without prior RN license or prerequisite courses?
Yes, you can earn your BSN degree without being a certified RN! Plus, there are no prerequisite courses required for admission at our School of Nursing. That’s why we offer multiple entry tracks to help BSN students at every level get started—whether it’s your first time in nursing and you're looking for a traditional BSN program or you’re adding on to your experience as a second degree program.
Second degree prospective students with a non-nursing or non-health sciences Bachelor's degree may need to complete five health science general education courses, such as General Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology 1, Anatomy & Physiology 2, General Microbiology and Human Nutrition.
Reach out to an admissions representative for more information
Q:
Will I have to complete a nursing entrance exam to get into the BSN program?
That depends! Students for the standard and second degree Accelerated BSN tracks will need to pass an entrance standardized exam like the HESI-A2.
You may be able to let your previous degree do the work for you. If you have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, you may be able to skip the HESI exam.
Q:
How do online nursing degrees function, particularly in terms of structure and delivery?
Our BSN degree program is a hybrid of online and in-person classes. It also includes self-directed assessments to help you save time and money. The flexible online courses still give you the knowledge and skills you need through expert instruction and real-life examples. The campus-based classes let you dive into campus life and gain hands-on clinical practice as a future BSN nurse.
Q:
If I complete my BSN degree online, will hospitals accept me?
Employment conditions will vary, but you can feel confident in our CCNE-accredited BSN degree program. Accreditation means that our nursing curriculum is built to CCNE minimum requirements and standards—qualifications that hospitals and clinics are looking for.
In addition, all Rasmussen programs are developed with a “backward design” mindset, meaning we prioritize the intended learning outcomes rather than just basic topics to be covered. It’s about how you’ll apply your skills throughout your career. You’ll gain advanced skills in leadership, critical thinking, health promotion and more.
Q:
How are online RN to BSN programs perceived in terms of reputation?
Our
online RN to BSN program
helps RNs earn their BSN degree faster. Since these students are already an RN, they are equipped with vast hands-on experience. The remaining classes needed to earn their BSN degree are online, with additional in-person clinicals to ensure full skills advancement. Plus, our RN to BSN program is CCNE accredited for student and employer confidence.
