At Denver Academy, we pride ourselves on differentiated learning to support each student's learning style. In addition to this unique approach in each classroom, we are happy to offer year-round tutoring and academic coaching services to both Denver Academy students and those attending other schools.

Orton-Gillingham Tutoring
This multi-sensory phonics-based program is designed for students who have difficulties with reading, spelling, and writing most commonly associated with dyslexia. Experienced Denver Academy trained instructors will provide one-on-one tutoring utilizing the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading. Tutoring includes:
Direct, systematic and sequential instruction of the Orton-Gillingham approach, individualized for the student
All teachers 40 + hours trained
Spelling and reading review of sounds and words; spelling and reading new concepts and applying these skills in reading a book or passage
As part of the tutoring hour, we will conduct a pre-assessment of current achievement levels to determine the proper starting point of lessons.
Current educational testing can be substituted for the pre-assessment.
Academic Coaching
The academic coach will tutor and support in specific content areas such as intermediate to advanced reading, comprehension, writing, spelling, executive functioning, science and math, study skills, and homework help.
Individualized academic coaching will enhance the student's knowledge in needed content areas
All grade levels
All tutors are DA-trained
Follows/corresponds to Denver Academy's approach for delivery of content and/or skills and strategy development

Read Bio
Tammy Curran has been in the educational field for more than 30 years. She started at Denver Academy as a teaching assistant in 1994 and has continued to grow in education ever since. A true “jack of all trades,” Tammy has held various positions at Denver Academy. She has worked with all ages as a DA Literacy Specialist, Elementary Teacher, Reading Chair, Literacy Specialist Coordinator, and Director of Tutoring Services. Tammy, along with other literacy specialists, works individually with students and also helps facilitate the Literacy Program in classrooms across the campus.
Tammy has been trained in various reading programs. She is certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach through the Orton-Gillingham Academy. She has also trained teachers using the FAST Reading Program.
Tammy was recently diagnosed with dyslexia and this experience renewed her love of teaching reading. She shares her knowledge by presenting at educational conferences and writing articles. Tammy is also gathering information to write a book.
Tammy earned her undergraduate degree in multi-communication with an emphasis on broadcast journalism from Metropolitan State University. She holds a graduate degree in special education with a concentration in reading from Regis University.
Tammy loves to spend her time outside of work reading, participating in exercise activities, and spending time with her family and friends.
