The government isn’t obliged to sell bonds – or collect taxes – to fund its spending programme because it issues the currency so it has access to all the money it needs. The fact that the govt is presiding over collapsing public services, crumbling infrastructure and a cost of living crisis for millions of Britons is a political choice.
