Hampton Roads Academy is currently seeking a Kindergarten aide for the upcoming school year (2026-2027). We are looking for a talented individual who nurtures and fosters the growth of our Kindergarten students academically, physically, and emotionally. The aide must understand the importance of collaborative work and communicate well with both colleagues and parents. The aide must follow the directions of the Kindergarten teachers and be committed to maintaining the school’s educational culture as they assist in developing and implementing the Kindergarten curriculum. The position demands a great deal of physical ability and, therefore, requires an energetic person capable of meeting the needs of small children.
Essential Duties:
Setting up and dismantling various classroom activities
Supervising children in the classroom
Supervising children during recess, resource periods, and on field trips
Setting up and cleaning up snack time, lunch, and rest period
Bathroom duty
Assisting with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal
Instructing students in small group rotations

Technical Theater & Digital Media Teacher

Position Summary
Hampton Roads Academy seeks a full-time Performing & Fine Arts faculty member with expertise in
technical theater and digital media
. This role is ideal for an educator-practitioner who values hands-on learning, collaboration, and mentorship in an independent school setting. The successful candidate will teach technical theater and digital media courses while supporting the technical production needs of theatrical performances and school-wide events.
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach
Technical Theater
, emphasizing scenic design, construction, lighting, sound, and stagecraft
Integrate
set design and construction
into the technical theater curriculum
Teach
fine arts courses in digital media
, visual design, and creative technology
Instruct students in industry-standard tools and workflows, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration
Support differentiated learning and a student-centered classroom environment
Production & Technical Responsibilities
Design, program, and operate
lighting and sound systems
for theatrical productions
Oversee the
technical needs of the school’s auditorium
, including:
Assemblies
Graduations
Performances/showcases
Special events/guest speakers
Collaborate with performing arts faculty, school leadership, and event coordinators to ensure smooth execution of events
Maintain and organize technical equipment, tools, and workspaces
Ensure safe practices and proper training for students using equipment
Preferred Qualifications
BFA or MFA
in Design (Theater, Scenic, Lighting, Sound, or a related field)
Demonstrated experience in scenic design and construction
Proficiency in programming and operating
theatrical lighting and sound systems
Fluency in
Adobe Creative Suite
(Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and related programs)
Strong collaborative and communication skills
Teaching experience in an independent school or educational theater setting
Experience working with middle and/or upper school students
Familiarity with flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum design

Part-Time Extended Care and Enrichment Program Staff

The Extended Care & Enrichment program offers exciting opportunities which enhance the student experience at HRA for the varying ages. Our program offers superior care by providing quality interactions between staff and students, while the policies, experiences and activities promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development in our students. Summer Camp Counselor
Position:
Summer Camp Counselor
Qualifications:
The ability to relate well to children and adults, including parents, staff members, and visitors is required. Experience working with groups of children from preschool to fifth grade is desired but not necessary as training will be given.
The Camp Counselor must be able to lead and actively participate in sports/games with children, be able to effectively monitor behavior while using appropriate discipline techniques, and develop age-appropriate activities. This position is responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean summer program site, ensuring a high level of program quality, and working to establish a positive relationship with all program participants and their families. The Camp Counselor will provide a positive role model to youth and teens within the philosophy of HRA Summer Camp standards and expectations. This will be done under the direction of the Director of Ancillary Programs.
Minimum of 18 years of age.
Experience working with children in a supervised setting is preferred but training will be given.
Proof of a negative TB test within the last two years.
Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED prior to the first day of working camp.
Complete and maintain required trainings to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation, Daily Health Observation, and other training as assigned.
Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, sex offender registry, and Child Protective Services check.
Responsibilities
: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Arrive to work on time, as scheduled, ready to work.
Supervise the children, with a priority in their safety, always following risk management policies.
Participate and encourage positive participation of all students in daily activities and events.
Responsible for care of all facilities, equipment, and supplies.
Prepare and maintain necessary supplies and stay within budget guidelines.
Communicate with parents, co-workers, and supervisor about incidents involving children’s behaviors, learning issues, or other problems.
Attend staff meetings, mandatory trainings, and other HRA events.
Follow HRA policies and procedures.
All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Substitute Teacher
Hampton Roads Academy is looking for energetic and engaging substitute teachers to work with students of all levels, from pre-kindergarten to high school. The most successful candidates will be detail-oriented and enjoy working with children. Official experience and/or a state teaching license is welcome but not required. Successful candidates will have to undergo a background check and be comfortable with all current COVID-19 policies.
Daily Substitute: $110/day
Long Term Substitute: $135/day
