Grand Bahama swim team welcomed home after Bahamas secures 8th straight CARIFTA title
GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas — On April 9, 2026, the Grand Bahama swim team returned home on Western Air to a warm and proud welcome, after representing The Bahamas at the 53rd CARIFTA Games in Fort-de-France, Martinique.
Joining them on their return were the Minister for Grand Bahama, Hon. Ginger Moxey; Deputy Director of Sports Norris Bain, along with family, friends and supporters.
Minister Moxey expressed great pride in the CARIFTA swim team for securing their eighth consecutive championship title, commending the athletes for their hard work, discipline and outstanding achievements.
She shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming Grand Bahama Aquatics Center, noting its importance in providing improved training opportunities to further strengthen the team’s preparedness for future competitions.
Moxey also acknowledged the parents for their unwavering support and recognised the coaches for their dedication and commitment to the team’s success.
This year, the team brought home a total of 55 medals, with 20 of those proudly earned by athletes from Grand Bahama.
The Grand Bahama swim team returned home on April 9, 2026, after representing The Bahamas at the 53rd CARIFTA Games in Martinique, bringing home six gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.
