International Applicants
La Jolla Country Day School is fortunate to have students and families from all around the globe as part of our community, enriching our campus
with their many different perspectives and traditions. If you currently reside outside of the United States and are considering applying to La Jolla Country Day School, please read and review the Frequently Asked Questions section below to make sure that you meet the school’s requirements for international students.
We see education as a partnership between school and family. As a day school,
as opposed to a boarding school,
it is our goal that all students who attend La Jolla Country Day School live with at least one parent
for the full duration of the academic year
and the years to come
Frequently Asked Questions
List of 3 frequently asked questions.
What are the application requirements? Do you have dorms or offer a host family program?
We see education as a partnership between school and family. As a day school, we do not provide housing nor make residential arrangements for students.
All international student applicants who require an F-1 visa to attend school in the United States will need to contact International Education Management, Inc. (IEM). This includes students who currently attend a school in the U.S. on an F-1 visa. IEM will assist with all inquiries, applications and, should admission be awarded, the enrollment process. Should a student be offered admission and the offer of admission be accepted, IEM will also provide a comprehensive set of student support services such as legal guardianship, assistance with I-20 related matters, health insurance, housing and various activities.
Students with green cards must live with at least one parent for the full duration of the academic year in order to attend La Jolla Country Day School. Students with green cards cannot reside with relatives or appointed guardians. They must reside with a parent.
The only exception to this is an arranged homestay through our partner agency, IEM, for students applying to Grades 9–11. Students in this situation must work with IEM through all phases of the application process, fully enroll in the IEM program and agree to all IEM policies. We will not consider students applying to ECC–Grade 8 who are not living with at least one parent for the full duration of the academic year under any circumstances.
Do you offer any ESL (English as a Second Language) support?
No. Our expectation is that English is read and spoken fluently by all our students, and, consequently, we do not accept any testing of English as a non-primary language.
Do you accept TOEFL, SLEP, or other testing when English is not your primary language?
No. La Jolla Country Day School does not provide ESL support and students must be proficient with reading, writing and speaking English when enrolling. La Jolla Country Day School uses only English-based admission assessments.
International Policy
Our preference is that international students reside with their parents in the United States. If a child is interested in applying to La Jolla Country Day School and is residing in the United States under a parent’s visa status, the family will need to show proof of green card or completed visa status, before an application is submitted.
If a parent is not living with a student and the family is interested in having the student attend La Jolla Country Day School, the following guidelines apply:
All international student applicants who require an F-1 visa to attend school in the United States will need to contact International Education Management, Inc. (IEM). This includes students who currently attend a school in the U.S. on an F-1 visa. IEM will assist with all inquiries, applications and, should admission be awarded, the enrollment process. Should a student be offered admission and the offer of admission be accepted, IEM will also provide a comprehensive set of student support services such as legal guardianship, assistance with I-20 related matters, health insurance, housing and various activities. LJCDS is unable to work with international students independent of our partner, IEM.
