Founding Principles
The founding philosophy of IUJ differs from that of traditional graduate schools focused on training researchers, aiming instead to cultivate highly skilled professionals who can play active and practical roles in the international community.
Through interdisciplinary education conducted in English, IUJ fosters both professional expertise and global competence within a fully residential campus where students from diverse nationalities and backgrounds live and study together—an approach that has consistently underpinned IUJ’s educational mission since its establishment.
History of IUJ
The concept of IUJ originated in the late 1970s with strong support from leaders in Japan’s business and academic communities, and the University was established as a graduate-level university dedicated to developing highly skilled professionals capable of active engagement in the global arena.
Since its founding, IUJ has continuously developed and refined its educational and research frameworks—centered on International Relations and International Management—by adapting its programs, establishing research institutes, and reorganizing academic structures, reflecting an ongoing evolution closely aligned with the global community.
Education
The education envisioned by IUJ is designed to nurture individuals who can contribute meaningfully to the international community through a structured and forward-looking academic framework that integrates advanced expertise with practical competence.
By clearly defining educational and research objectives, learning guidelines, and achievement goals through its three policies, IUJ supports the systematic development of professional expertise, while continuous assessment, quality assurance, and faculty development ensure ongoing improvement and the sustained quality of education.
