On June 11, 2025, our high school was delighted to welcome Mrs. Carina Brossy, a Nature Studies teacher at Arborbrook Christian Academy in Matthews, North Carolina.
Thanks to her, for the past two years, fifth-grade students have had the opportunity to exchange letters with American fifth-graders, discussing the special features of both schools and our respective traditions, as well as learning interesting facts about flora and fauna and nature conservation.
On Wednesday, Ms. Brossy was first welcomed by the headmaster, and Mr. Albani personally showed her the school, which she had previously only seen in photos. She then visited the students of class 6b, who had prepared a short introduction game, and answered the many questions from the sixth-graders. This class initiated this wonderful pen pal relationship last school year.
The next lesson was dedicated to getting to know class 5c, whose students have been diligently exchanging letters this year. The children were delighted to receive small gifts and greetings from their pen pals. Ms. Brossy was delighted to finally meet all the children who had participated in the letter exchange so far.
The 11th grade Latin class concluded the session. First, Elias Yang wowed our visitor in the auditorium with his tremendous talent on the grand piano. Afterwards, the students invited Ms. Brossy on a tour of the outdoor area and told her about the diverse plants and trees. This delighted her and led to a lively discussion. For example, it was very exciting to learn that some of the plants do not even grow in North Carolina and that certain plants have certain properties. Ms. Brossy also gave the students some tips on edible plants and the medicinal plants that grow here. A big thank you goes to class 10a, who helped me to meticulously categorize all the plants and find out fascinating information about them.
A special surprise for our visitor was the planting of a tree on our school grounds. This tree symbolizes the friendship between our two schools and the friendships that may arise from this exchange in the future.
