The acquisition concentration evaluates the foundational elements of contract management from the perspective of general business and government. The concepts of government acquisitions, business strategies and proposals, and government contract law will be reviewed. Students will be able to evaluate the unique requirements and expectations of the federal government acquisition and contract system to determine their impact on a business.
In addition, students who complete this concentration will be prepared to:
Address and settle complaints from vendors or contractors against suppliers.
Complete purchase orders and requisitions for equipment and supplies.
Create and implement guidelines, policies and procedures for managing purchases and contracts.
Create strategies and plans to reduce costs and save money.
Develop and review specifications for bids, equipment and products.
Ensure purchase order claims and contracts comply with company policies.
Evaluate market and delivery systems to predict availability of supplies and equipment.
Find vendors and manage staff who are responsible for purchasing, selling and distributing materials, equipment and other supplies.
Keep a record of items ordered and received and coordinate the proper disposal of any surplus materials.
Negotiate contracts and develop policies for companies with different suppliers.
Oversee and manage purchasing department budgets.
Produce bid awards for board approval.
