Position Overview
Substitute Teachers at The Friends School of Atlanta are responsible for maintaining the school’s supportive and inclusive learning environment when regular teachers are absent. Substitutes are expected to implement lesson plans, supervise students, and model FSA’s Quaker values throughout the school day.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Provide instruction and classroom management according to teacher-provided lesson plans.
Foster a reflective classroom environment that emphasizes respect, collaboration, and individual responsibility.
Utilize differentiation and small-group instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
Supervise students in classrooms, during transitions, and in common spaces.
Attend and participate in Silent Meeting on Fridays from 8:30–9:00 a.m. when applicable.
Uphold the Quaker values of respect, equality, and community in all interactions.
Complete required timesheets accurately and submit them by the payroll deadline.
Grade-Level and Program Assignments
Substitutes may be placed in a variety of settings, including:
PreK3–Grade 4 (Elementary School)
One or two teachers per classroom (depending on class size).
Note: PreK3 is licensed by Bright From The Start; substitutes must be fingerprinted by DECAL and added to the system.
Grades 5–8 (Middle School)
Single-subject classrooms following a block schedule (1.5-hour classes, with shorter Wednesday periods).
Students travel together in homeroom groups in grades 5 and 6.
Special Area Teachers
May follow schedules different from core academic teachers.
Includes art, music, P.E., innovation lab, Spanish and environmental science.
Aftercare (3:00–6:00 p.m.)
Additional substitute opportunities are often available during aftercare hours.
Qualifications
Experience working with children in an educational or youth-centered setting is preferred.
Ability to manage classrooms effectively and positively.
Commitment to FSA’s mission and Quaker values.
Flexibility, reliability, and professionalism.
For PreK3: DECAL fingerprinting and background check required.
First Aid/CPR training for Pediatrics
Compensation
$20 per hour
Substitutes must complete weekly timesheets, submitted seven days prior to the 18th of each month (payday).

The Director of Development leads and advances The Friends School of Atlanta’s philanthropic efforts in support of the school’s mission and long-term sustainability. Working in close partnership with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees, the Director of Development oversees the school’s fundraising strategy, including the Annual Fund, major gifts, grant writing and donor stewardship. Through thoughtful engagement and clear communication, the Director of Development helps strengthen a culture of generosity and partnership that supports the educational experience of every student at The Friends School of Atlanta.

Champion initiatives that promote inclusivity, diversity and social justice within and beyond our school walls.
Support parent/family community events (e.g., Fall & Spring Fundraisers,  Grandparents and Special Friends Day, Back to School Night, etc.)
Model and promote expectations aligned with the school’s values and Quaker ethos
Collaborate with colleagues to support community and school initiatives
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the mission and strategic priorities of The Friends School of Atlanta.
Partner closely with the Head of School to cultivate and steward relationships with donors, families, alumni and community partners.
Lead the planning and execution of the Annual Fund and other giving initiatives that engage the broader school community.
Identify and pursue grant opportunities and prepare proposals to foundations and corporate partners.
Coordinate donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and communications that strengthen long-term relationships with supporters.
Maintain accurate donor records and generate development reports through the school’s development database system.
Prepare development updates, reports and presentations for the Head of School and the Board of Trustees.
Ensure the accurate processing, acknowledgment and stewardship of gifts to the school.
Partner with the Business Office to ensure accurate reporting and tracking of philanthropic contributions.
Work collaboratively with the Board Development Committee to advance fundraising priorities and support trustee engagement in development efforts.
Provide training and guidance to trustees and volunteer leaders to strengthen the school’s culture of philanthropy.
Support the broader life of the school and perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications
Educational and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes:

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build authentic relationships.

Position Overview
The Friends School of Atlanta, a Quaker school committed to nurturing the whole child, seeks a caring, reliable, and patient Aftercare Teacher to support our three-year-old classroom during the after-school program. This role provides a safe, warm, and engaging environment where young children can play, rest, and explore at the end of their school day.
Grounded in Quaker values such as respect, community, simplicity, and peaceful conflict resolution, the Aftercare Teacher fosters a calm and inclusive space that supports children’s social, emotional, and developmental growth.

Key Responsibilities
Provide attentive supervision and care for three-year-old children during aftercare hours.
Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities such as free play, art, stories, outdoor play, and quiet rest time.
Maintain a safe, nurturing, and orderly classroom environment.
Support children with daily routines including snack time, bathroom needs, and transitions.
Encourage positive social interactions and guide children in resolving conflicts respectfully.
Communicate warmly and professionally with staff and families during pickup.
Follow all school policies related to safety, health, and child supervision.
Assist with classroom cleanup and preparation for the next day.
Qualifications
Experience working with preschool-aged children (ages 2–4) preferred.
Background in early childhood education, child development, or related field is a plus.
Patient, nurturing, and attentive to the developmental needs of young children.
Ability to create a calm and supportive environment aligned with Quaker values.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Must pass required background checks and be fingerprinted.
CPR/First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit on the floor, bend, and engage in play with young children.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds when assisting children.
