Human Health Impacts of Microplastics in the Great Lakes
(15:06) - The Great Lakes ecosystem contains 84% of the available freshwater in North America and 20% of the available freshwater in the world. The region is home to 3,500 plant and animal species, and supports fisheries, industry, tourism, and recreation in the United States. However, microplastics – tiny, less than 5 mm-sized particles of plastic – have been found in all lake habitats, throughout the food chain, and in tap water.
