Scholarships are funds awarded to students based on talent, skill, financial need,
or major area of study and do not have to be repaid. The federal government is the

All ASU Newport Scholarships, with the exception of the ASUN GED Scholarship, are
automatically awarded to first-time freshmen in the
first fall
after high school graduation with eligible test scores on file. All scholarships
are awarded during the fall and spring semesters each year providing the student meets
all renewal requirements. No academic scholarships are awarded during the summer
semester.
State Scholarships
Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship
The Arkansas Academic Challenge Program provides scholarships to Arkansas residents
pursuing higher education. Funded in large part by the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery,
the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship is available to students regardless of
their academic status, whether they are just graduating from high school, currently
enrolled in college, enrolling in college for the first time, or re-enrolling after
a period of time out of college.
Who May Apply:
Traditional
: Students applying for the upcoming academic year who expect to attend an approved
college or university in the academic year following their graduation from a public
high school, a private or out-of-state high school, or homeschool must have one of
the following to qualify.
ACT composite score or superscore of 19+ (

Non-Traditional
: Students with some or no college credit can qualify. If a student has some college
credit, they may be considered eligible with a cumulative college GPA of at least
2.5. A student with no college credit can qualify as a Non-Traditional student if
they have an ACT composite score or superscore of at least 19 (or an equivalent of
a 19 composite on an equivalent test).
Non-traditional students may begin attendance with fewer semester credit hours than
the required number for Traditional students and still receive a prorated scholarship
award for that semester. They must also maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
and earn the appropriate number of hours, based on whether they attended full-time
(15+ credit hours) or part-time (less than 15 credit hours) each semester.

Arkansas Future Grant (AR Future)
Arkansas Future (ArFuture) is the newest state grant program. The purpose of this
grant is to increase the education and skills of Arkansas’s workforce in an affordable
manner. The grant applies to students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Math (STEM) or regional high-demand areas of study. The grant will cover tuition
and fees for qualifying certificate and Associate degree programs at Arkansas’ public
institutions for eligible students. The grant is available on a first-come, first-serve
basis.
Who May Apply:
Every person who has graduated from an Arkansas high school, Arkansas home school
or GED program, or anyone who has a high school diploma and has lived in Arkansas
for the last three years and has not yet earned an Associate degree. Students must
enroll in a STEM program, a state high demand, or regionally high demand area of study.
Students must complete the FAFSA.

Arkansas Heroes Scholarship
Arkansas Heroes Scholarship provides assistance for in-state tuition, housing, and
mandatory fees at eligible Arkansas institutions for dependents and spouses of Arkansans
who were killed or missing in action, were prisoners of war, recipients of a Medal
of Honor or Purple Heart, or permanently and totally disabled through military service
OR dependent children or spouses of persons killed or permanently disabled in the
line of duty as a law enforcement officer, firefighter, forester, correctional officer,
Community Punishment Department or Transportation Department employee, or teacher.
Who May Apply:
Undergraduates who are dependent children or spouses of persons who were killed or

Arkansas Teacher Academy Scholarship
Disclaimer: The laws, rules, regulations, award amounts, amount of awardees, eligibility
criteria, funding per program, etc., are subject to change at any point prior to,
during, or after application through the SAMS application. These changes will be based
on changes in law or funding provided by the Arkansas General Assembly. It is understood
that ADHE is not at fault for any changes that occur to any financial aid program.
In addition, awards for all ADHE programs are limited by the availability of funds.
The Arkansas Teacher Academy Scholarship is a program that offers aspiring teachers
up to $6,000 for tuition and program fees each semester for undergraduate studies. For
every year a student receives funding, the student is required to teach in an Arkansas
public school. Graduate programs may also be covered with the same work requirement.
Requirements: Within one year of completion, Academy attendees must teach in an Arkansas
public school for each year of funding received.

Arkansas Workforce Challenge
The purpose of the scholarship is for workforce training in high-demand areas of healthcare,
information technology, and industry. Classes are not limited to credit-bearing programs.
Non-credit, workforce-training classes that fit into the three above categories may
also qualify.
Who May Apply:
Every person who has graduated from an Arkansas high school, Arkansas home school
or GED program, or anyone who has a high school diploma or GED earned from another
state and has lived in Arkansas for the last year. Students must enroll in a high
demand area of study in the programs of Information Technology, Healthcare, and Industry.
Programs are not restricted for credit bearing classes. Non-credit, workforce-training
classes that fit into the three above categories may also qualify. A listing of programs

Governor's Scholars Program - Distinguished Scholars
The Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship is the most academically rigorous scholarship
program offered for those graduating high school seniors scoring either a minimum
composite or superscore of 32 on the ACT or 1410 on the SAT and a 3.5 cumulative grade
point average. Those named National Merit Finalists or National Achievement Scholars
may qualify without meeting the GPA requirement but must still meet the ACT/SAT requirement.
FAFSA is required. The scholarship pays tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board
up to $10,000 per year.
Who May Apply:
High school seniors who possess a 32 ACT composite or superscore
or 1410 on the SAT while maintaining a 3.5 cumulative GPA or the standing of National
Merit and National Achievement Finalist.
If you apply for other scholarships through our SAMS system
BEFORE
scoring high enough on the ACT or SAT and then score high enough later,
you will need to submit another scholarship application through your SAMS account
to notify us of your newer score, before the annual deadline posted above.
It may be several weeks after you take your ACT before we may be notified of your
new score from ACT.
NOTE:
ADHE will take the official composite or superscore from ACT only. We are not able
to manually add or remove the Science from any ACT test that is taken, Legacy or Enhanced.
You will need to coordinate with ACT and/or your high school counselor to determine
the best option to reach the ACT composite or superscore you are aiming for BEFORE
you take the test. You cannot then decide AFTER the test to add or remove the Science
score.
NOTE:
Non-U.S. Citizens with an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) or have a parent
who has an EAD may apply for the Governor’s Scholars Program (FAFSA will not be required

Governor's Scholars Program - Non-Distinguished Scholars
The Governor’s Scholars (Non-Distinguished) Scholarship is offered to high school
seniors that will graduate with a Diploma of Distinction or that have earned an associate’s
degree while in high school. It will also be offered to the highest scoring high
school senior by ACT or SAT, GPA, and Class Rank who has applied for the Academic
Challenge Scholarship in an Arkansas county where there was not a Governor’s Distinguished
Scholar that was able to be selected. FAFSA is required. The scholarship pays tuition,
mandatory fees, and room and board up to $5,000 per year.
Who May Apply:
High school seniors that are in their graduating academic year. If you are graduating
high school a year early, you will need to apply by July 1 of the Academic Year you
are expecting to graduate.
NOTE:

National Guard Tuition Waiver
The National Guard Tuition Waiver will only be awarded for programs leading to an
undergraduate degree up to a bachelor’s degree, in a state-supported public two (2)
or four (4) year institution within the State of Arkansas. Guardsmen cannot have previously
been awarded a bachelor's degree. NGTW will cover tuition for all approved courses
and mandatory institution fees. Each Guardsman is responsible for other costs, such
as non-mandatory fees, room and board, textbooks, parking permits, etc.
Who May Apply:
The NGTW Program is open to all enlisted and officer personnel of the Arkansas Army
and Air National Guard who have not previously been awarded a bachelor's degree, are
residents of the State of Arkansas, are in “Good Standing” with their unit and who
have completed Initial Active Duty Training (Basic Training or had the Basic Training
requirement waived by the Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC). The Guardsman must
be enrolled in an Arkansas state-supported public institution and in a degree seeking
program. Guardsmen who have been deployed or discharged may have a continuation of
eligibility (see Subpart 3. Administration 6 CAR § 530-304. Continuation of eligibility).
How to apply:
Please be sure to apply for NGTW through the National Guard Education office or your
commanding officer.
Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship
Assisting students get the education they need for the career they want. Scholarships
can be used for personal living expenses, like utilities, gas, and groceries. Scholarships
are available to mothers and fathers who are currently enrolled in college.
Eligibility:
Resident of Arkansas
Single head of household (single, legally separated, divorced, widowed) with at least
50/50 custody of a child under 18
High school graduate or equivalent (may apply if enrolled in college and in the process
of obtaining GED diploma)
Pursuing a vocationally-oriented undergraduate course of study (full or part-time)
to ensure a better standard of living for his/her family. Applicants cannot already
have earned a bachelor's degree.
A low-income person at or near the poverty level
Recipient of a Pell grant or in process of obtaining Pell
Award:

Arkansas Education and Training Voucher Program for Foster and Former Foster Youth
The Arkansas Education and Training Voucher Program for Foster and Former Foster Youth
offers funds to foster youth up to age 26 and former foster youth to attend colleges,
universities, and vocational training institutions.
Eligibility:
Be a current foster youth or former foster youth attending a college, university,
or vocational training institution.
Award Amounts:
Students can be awarded an ETV grant up to $2,500 each semester (as long as funding
is available).
To Apply:
Your Transitional Youth Services (TYS) Coordinator or Family Service Worker (FSW)
can assist you with completing the application process. You can also contact DHS

NEA Charitable Foundation Scholarships
Private Donor Scholarships
Eligibility:
The Northeast Arkansas Charitable Foundation administers private donor scholarships
for students who are attending ASUN Newport campus. These scholarships are generally
awarded annually and priority will be given based on need, specific donor guidelines,
and/ or scholastic achievement. We have very generous and wonderful donors who have
helped establish a variety of scholarships including the following:

ASU Foundation Scholarships
Fowler Family Hospitality Scholarship
Background
: Each academic year, Arkansas State University-Newport will award 2 scholarships
to students in the Hospitality Services Program. The scholarship may be renewable
for the length of the program. Scholarships may be in the combination of any of the
following degrees:
Certificate of Proficiency - Hospitality Services
Technical Certificate - Food Service & Management
Associate of Applied Science General Technology - Food Service & Management
Application Requirement:
Applicants must write a 200-word essay about their goals beyond earning their credential(s)
from ASU-Newport and how being in the hospitality services program will help them
achieve the goals listed. (Note: Include the word count at the bottom of the essay.)
Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034)
Award Amount:
Award amount covers costs associated with the appropriate degree program.
Renewal Requirements:
Students must have a 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and pass 67% of their
courses (PACE).
The scholarship is renewable for the length of the program as long as the required
cumulative GPA and PACE are met.
Academic progress will be verified at the end of each term of enrollment by the ASUN
financial aid office.
Other Information:
First selection will be given to students who do not receive other forms of financial
assistance.
The Scholarship Application will open in September and February each year.
Jane M. Pratt Education Trust Scholarship
Background:
The Jane M. Pratt Education Trust Scholarship is awarded to Jackson County residents
to further their education. Mr. Bill Pratt along with his late brother, Richard, established
the scholarship toward the wishes of their sister, Jane.
Application Requirements:
Must be a graduate of a Jackson County School
Must be enrolled on the ASU – Newport Campus
Applicants must have a provable financial need
Applicants must have a high school grade average of “C” (2.0 or higher)
Applicants shall be considered based on extra-curricular activities in high school
and civic, church, charitable areas, etc.
Award Amount:
$500.00 per semester
Renewal Requirements:
Students must have a 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and pass 67% of their
courses (PACE). The scholarship is renewable for one additional semester as long
as the required cumulative GPA and PACE are met. Academic progress will be verified
at the end of each term of enrollment by the ASUN financial aid office.
The Scholarship Application will open in September and February each year.
David L. & Imogene Garrett Johnston Memorial Scholarship Endowment Scholarship
Background:
The David L. & Imogene Garrett Johnston Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created
to assist an ASU-Newport (Newport campus) student fulfill their educational goal of
becoming a nurse. The scholarship is a one-time award that is awarded on an annual
basis.
Application Requirements:
Must be a Graduate of a Jackson County School
Must be enrolled on the ASU – Newport Campus
Must be enrolled in an ASU-Newport Nursing program
Students must have a 2.0 cumulative high school grade point average
Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034)
Award Amount:
$500.00 one-time award
Renewal Requirements:
The scholarship is a one-time award.
The Scholarship Application will open in September and February each year.
Dr. James and Laura Jane Collier Health Professions Scholarship
The Dr. James and Laura Jane Collier Scholarship is a $500.00 renewable scholarship
to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport Health Professions student.
The scholarship is designed to help meet the educational needs of students who demonstrate
financial need. These funds may be applied toward tuition, fees, testing, and/or
books.
Eligibility:
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
The applicant must be seeking a degree in the Health Professions Industry.
The applicant must be in enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words).
Award Amount:
$500.00 per semester for a maximum of two semesters
Renewal Requirements:
The scholarship is renewable in the amount of $500.00 for one additional semester
if the student has maintained a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and is enrolled
in 6 credit hours.
Other Information:
All scholarship awards are contingent on availability of funds. The fund is administered
by ASU-Newport

James and Joan Tinsley Scholarship
Background:
The James and Joan Tinsley Scholarship is a $500.00 renewable scholarship to be awarded
to an Arkansas State University-Newport student. The scholarship is designed to provide
aid to students who demonstrate financial need. These funds can be applied toward
tuition, fees, and/or books.
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
The applicant must possess a positive attitude, strong work ethic and recognizable
drive.
Significant preference will be given to residents of Swifton, AR.
The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words). SEE BELOW.

$500.00 per semester
The Scholarship Application will open in September and February each year.
Sydney Sutherland Memorial Scholarship
Background:
The Sydney Sutherland Memorial Scholarship is a $500.00 renewable scholarship to
be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport Health Professions student.
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
The applicant must be seeking a degree in the Health Professions Industry with a preference
given to students seeking a nursing degree.
The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words).
Award Amount:
$500 per semester

McRaven Education Scholarship
Background:
The McRaven Education Scholarship is a $500.00 annual scholarship to be awarded to
an Arkansas State University-Newport student seeking a degree in Education. The scholarship
is designed to provide aid to students who demonstrate financial need..
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
The applicant must be seeking a degree in Education.
The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words).
Award Amount:
$500 annually ($250 per semester)
The Scholarship Application will open in September and February each year.
H.G. "Gus" Graham Jr. Scholarship
Background:
The H.G. “Gus” Graham Jr. Scholarship is $250.00 per semester for a maximum of two
semesters to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport Agriculture Technology
student graduating from Tuckerman High School.
The scholarship is designed to help meet the educational needs of students who demonstrate
financial need. These funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books.
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 3.0.
The applicant must be seeking a degree in the Agriculture Technology program.
The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
The applicant must be a graduate of Tuckerman High School.
The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words) explaining why agriculture is important,
beyond feeding and clothing the planet.
Award Amount:
$250.00 per semester for a maximum of two semesters

Marilyn Thompson Opportunity Through Education Scholarship
Background
: The Marilyn Thompson Opportunity Through Education Scholarship is a renewable scholarship
in the amount of $500.00 per semester, to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport
student for up to four (4) semesters. The scholarship is designed to provide aid to
students from a minority race or ethnicity who demonstrate financial need.
The applicant must represent a minority race or ethnicity.
Applicants seeking a degree in STEM and Business fields of study will receive preference.
Applicants that have graduated from Newport High School will receive preference.
Applicants planning to pursue a Bachelor or higher-level degree will receive preference.
The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words).
The Scholarship Application will open in September and February each year.
Twyford Family Business Scholarship
Background:
The Twyford Family Business Scholarship is a one-time scholarship up to $1,000 to
be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport student entering the Associate
of Science in Business program or the Associate of Applied Science in Management and
Supervision program. Preference may be given to applicants graduating from Jackson
County, Arkansas.
The scholarship is designed to provide aid to students who demonstrate financial need.
These funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books.
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
The applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student.
The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words).

Up to $1,000

A copy of the student’s high school transcript must be returned with the application.

Gene Haas Foundation Scholarship
The Arkansas State University-Newport Gene Haas Foundation Scholarship is a grant-funded
scholarship designed to assist Advanced Manufacturing students with tuition and fees.
Eligibility:
Enrolled in ASU-Newport's Advanced Manufacturing program.
Award:
Varies depending on availability of funds.

Not eligible for renewal; one-time award

Farmer's Union Mutual Insurance Scholarship
Farmer’s Union Mutual Insurance is offering a scholarship to be awarded to an Arkansas
State University-Newport Agriculture Technology student. The scholarship is designed
to help meet the educational needs of students who demonstrate financial need. These
funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books.
Application Requirements:
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
The applicant must be seeking a degree in the Agriculture Technology program.
The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 credit hours.
Award Amount:
$TBD (4 consecutive semesters or equivalent)
Renewal Requirements:
Students must have a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and pass 67% of their
courses (PACE). The scholarship is renewable for three additional semesters as long
as the required cumulative GPA and PACE are met. Academic progress will be verified
at the end of each term of enrollment by the ASUN financial aid office.
Scholarship recipient must complete at least 15 hours per semester.
Other Information:
Scholarships are awarded in the order they are received.
All scholarship awards are contingent on availability of funds.
A copy of student’s high school transcript must be returned with application.

Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce - Workforce Development Committee
Background:
The Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Committee will award
a scholarship to a graduating high school senior(s) from the Jonesboro region. The
awardee(s) will be enrolled at ASUN-Jonesboro with the intention of pursuing a technical
certificate in one or more of the three programs listed below, with a goal of working
in manufacturing in the Jonesboro area.
Advanced Manufacturing Technology
Industrial Maintenance
Welding
Application Requirements:
Applicants must write a 200-word essay about why they wish to pursue a career in manufacturing,
and how earning their credential(s) from ASUN Jonesboro will help them achieve their
goals, both short-term and long-term. The essay must also include how the applicant
intends to fund his/her education.
Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA (ASUN School Code: 042034).
Applicants must be enrolled at ASUN Jonesboro Campus in one of the technical programs
listed above.
The awards will be made each academic year and the opportunity to submit applications
will be announced on March 1 on years funding is available.

Award amount will be determined each year according to funding available and will
be announced at the onset of the application process.
Renewal Requirements:
The scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.
